Load testing your battery. Load testing your car battery ensures reliability by verifying its ability to start your vehicle in various conditions, thereby preventing unexpected breakdowns. It also extends battery life by identifying issues early, reducing costs associated with premature replacement. Ultimately, it enhances safety and provides peace of mind, especially during challenging driving situations., follow these steps:

Make sure that the battery you want to test is fully charged and disconnected from the vehicle or any other electrical load.

Turn off all accessories and electrical devices in the vehicle or equipment that uses the battery.

Connect the load tester's positive and negative clamps to the battery terminals, ensuring a secure and tight connection.

Set the load tester to the correct voltage range (6 or 12 volts, depending on the battery).

Turn on the load tester and wait for it to stabilize.

If the load tester has a voltmeter, note the battery's initial voltage reading.

Press the load button on the tester to apply the load, and monitor the voltage reading. The load should be applied for 15 seconds or until the voltage drops to a specified level, which is typically around 9.6 volts for a 12-volt battery or 5.1 volts for a 6-volt battery.

Record the voltage reading after the load is applied and compare it to the battery's specifications or a reference chart to determine the battery's state of charge and overall health.

Release the load button and turn off the load tester.

Disconnect the load tester's clamps from the battery terminals.

Note that some load testers may have slightly different features or procedures, so always consult the manufacturer's instructions for specific details on how to use your particular model. Additionally, using a load tester incorrectly or applying too much load can damage the battery or the tester itself, so always exercise caution and follow safety guidelines when using battery testing equipment.

This is a must have for anyone that does some of their own maintenance on their vehicles. It checks cold cranking amps, summer cranking amps, alternator charge, volts, and minimum load volts .

For $20 it's a no brainer for anyone who owns a car. Simple to use. Test your car battery once a year just before winter sets in and you're good to go! Car batteries last for 6~7 years at the very best, provided you top off your car's battery with distilled water every 2 years. Without topping off the car battery every 2nd year the battery will typically run low on acid level due to the hydrogen evaporating as the car battery is in use and if the acid levels get overly low the car battery won't hold it's normal 12.4 ~ 12.6 volt charge any longer.

Great video and excellent directions on how to use it. I have the same tester and use it more than my little digital one, I trust it more. I also love the smell of it when it hasn't been used in awhile and you can smell the burning dust

I’ve been in the Battery Industry for 34 yrs and I was taught that using a load tester the battery has to be 75% charge before using also you need to pull half of the cca amps , so if you have a 250cca battery you need to pull 250 amps for the correct reading anything below 9.6 fails

How's she goin'? These battery testers are some handy to have. I was having trouble with my tractor not starting and I got one of these and determined the battery was OK. It turned out to be a bad ground on the tractor. Great review and explanation of how to use this tester!! Thanks and take care!!
