I'd pay to see this man just sing Japanese Folk songs for an hour

As a japanese, I actually like his singing. He was able to express the lyric's feeling with his talent. Great job Tituss!

You know it’s good acting

When you believe the male actor playing woman when he says his pregnant.

As half Japanese I was fully expecting something mediocre like so many portrayals of Japanese culture by the west...but when he started singing...I started crying...what a masterpiece of a performance and episode...

This song is my favorite Japanese song ever (Takeda no Komoriuta) and my reaction was the same as the guy in the audience when Titus started singing. I'm in awe.

I love how the show subverted our expectations. Throughout the whole episode, you'd expect Titus to make a fool out of himself - a terrible, unapologetic and flamboyantly gay African American actor dressed as an 18th century geisha in front of an Asian American audience. You'd think Titus' performance would bomb in a very funny way and get humiliated by his hubris, but the show decided not to play it safe and showed an actual deep and poetic relationship between two cultures, and how they can be bridged through compassion and human kindness. Yup, I cried every time.

When he holds the note at 1:44. Devastating.

The fact that Tina Fey had the foresight to make sure that this was performed with as much care and authenticity as possible really makes this show elevated in quality. In any other comedy show (The Office, BBT, Parks n Rec, etc.) the character would get up there and just have a giant cringe fest with a terrible outcome. The show is funny, but the characters are loveable. You root for them, you laugh with them, and you cry with them. I literally cannot hold my tears in at the last phrase.

This isn't cultural appropriation, this is CULTURAL APPRECIATION.

My aunt sung this sing to me a lot when I was younger and I cried instead of sleep. ❤️ as someone who is Afro-Asian seeing this makes me smile. Wish I found it sooner.

First few episodes of the series you really buy into believing that Titus is a terrible actor and a bad singer because he's kind of a joke but the actor that plays him is actually really talented. It can't be easy as an actor playing a bad actor on screen 😂 he's actually a really good singer and a very dynamic character

Never seen the show but I think this is a really well done scene with an important message. I get why people are upset over their culture being appropriated with ignorance, but it’s clear that Titus actually relates with and understand the material. If someone can actually resonate and portray an art form accurately, it shouldn’t matter if it’s part of their ancestry, this is a celebration of the culture not a mockery.

As a person that speaks Japanese, his words spoke to me in a new level. I really cried listening to it cuz he put so much emotion in every word he was singing. It was really touching

This song is beautiful and his voice is amazing. The vibrato in his voice is really something. Made a tear come out when I saw it the first time.
