Previously, we raced against the weather to get as much of the house under roof and sealed up as possible before the storm hit. We fell short of our goal but were able to complete the entire dormer and remainder of south roof over hang including lifting a 2x12x24 LVL into place. We can now move on to building on top of the concrete block safe room- our final project to complete the build. In this video we complete the subfloor and begin framing.

We are a couple who are building our own home from the ground up in the mountains of West Virginia. After living near the city our entire lives we finally decided to sell it all, pack up our 3 kids and live in an RV on our 73 acres while building our own debt free, off-grid house and learning to live a more self-reliant life.
Our house build is documented entirely on our main channel "Wild Wonderful Off-Grid" and the buiness/work related side of our life can be found on our secondary channel "Josh and Erin- The After Show". Here you will see us renovating our Cafe, opening/operating the Cafe with goods from our farm, building/furnishing/running our short term rentals, finding/operating our other real estate investments and more.

Erin, each episode I have watched of your channel for the past 7+ years, you continue to amaze me more. I believe I wrote a poem about your welding skills when you displayed your ability to weld. What is amazing is that with all of the extremely hard work you've done, which most women will never do, you have maintained the beauty and grace of an absolutely gorgeous woman, terrific mother, and loving wife with the values that all men look for, but rarely find in the women they marry. That's why everyone thinks that Josh is the luckiest man alive, but because he is what he is, you are equally a very lucky woman to have found him!

I see a family working toward a common goal and I see three former children growing into young adults before our eyes. You guys do my heart a world of good. I can't wait to see the completed house. If anyone deserves

I like it how Josh just goes about business and lets Erin pick up a 4x8 floor board solo. She’s a keeper, drop dead gorgeous AND skilled and capable. I enjoy your build and videos, especially the low angle shots of bees working the flowers. Great work

Not wanting to be intrusive, however, I need to pass on advice from my grandpa [I'm an 80yo]. "Always tie back your hair when working with machinery, motorized or manual." When employing 'always, ' you grow a lifelong habit that could save you from injury.
Your vlog has been such a blessing for this DIYer. It is such a joy watching your family work together to build a geneational homestead. ❤

You probably won't se this comment, but I think you would be better off if you put insulation under entire floor above the safe room. It will dampen the sound, which otherwise be echoed by the concrete. Right now you're building gigantic drum.
Lots of love from Europe!

Your sons are just like their dad, problem solving along the way and what a comfort knowing they have their parents back on helping to run the farm. Elly is such a delight, loves all her farm animals and loves cooking and making soap with mom. Love how Josh and Erin take time off from the build to help the kids and teach them on the job. What a lovely hard working family and I look forward each week to their videos. Have watched since they first moved onto the property in their RV. Have a lovely day every one.

I can’t believe it’s been 7 years the boys turning into young men and Ellie from diapers to now. Wow how time flies, you guys have an awesome family and fun to watch

your videos make the TV show the Walton's look tame. No play acting just a down to earth family with great work ethics. This really is apparent when you take some time and watch some of your earlier videos. You can see the American Spirit in the making over the past 5 years. It's so much fun to watch your progress.

Glad to see you all are still at it, and Josh hasn’t bought his middle-aged Corvette and called it quits yet ;)

I know I keep saying this, but it's so comforting to see Chuck in the Helix ad. He's missed by so many.❤

You are such hard workers…..Think smarter…not harder. If you store all your building materials on pallet layers and trestles 3-4 feet off the ground you will half your lifting work/half the back breaking part of your build…and positioning at height can be done with the machinery you already own..building site logistics is extremely important when you have small workforces…and yours I would consider to be quite small❤😂

FRANK did a GREAT JOB. You may think he is sleeping but he is plotting his next move.

I ran a row of lentil blocks on top of the concrete block walls. Then I added mortar and rebar down the lentil and placed j bolts in the mortar to hold the top plate. On top of that 2x12's were used to hold the second floor. I ran 1&1/4" tongue and groove plywood that was eventually topped with 3/4" oak flooring. I also reinforced the block walls vertically with mortar and rebar every four feet around the perimeter. Sealed the outside and back-filled six feet high with clay. Made a dry above ground basement with my home built on top. It actually doubled the size of my home for just a few thousand dollars more.

Josh every where you stapled the house wrap place a long ferrying strip and nail it down with some roofing nails and you can also use some 2x4s nails over house wrap that will keep it from ripping off when it becomes a giant sail I learned that trick the hard way it works
