If your purpose is just to play games, having 12GB of VRAM is too much for you. However, for video editing or rendering purposes, VRAM becomes crucial. Higher VRAM capacity can significantly impact rendering performance—the more, the better. But having 12GB VRAM on the RTX 3060 doesn't necessarily mean it outperforms the RTX 4060 8GB in rendering and video editing tasks. The RTX 4060, with its higher CUDA core count, can still excel despite its lower VRAM capacity. You'll only need higher VRAM if you're handling larger projects with extensive scenes and heavy textures.

In terms of future-proofing, a higher VRAM size can make your GPU more future-proof. The RTX 3060 12GB can be considered future-proof in terms of VRAM size. However, the RTX 4060 is also future-proof due to its newer architecture, which may offer better compatibility with newer software and longer support from NVIDIA compared to the RTX 3060.

Regarding power consumption, the RTX 4060 consumes less power than the RTX 3060 due to its newer architecture. If you live in a city with expensive energy costs, this difference in energy consumption should be a consideration.

I hope it helps...😉

This comparison is a tiny bit misleading, because you're relying on the game's graphical presets. I'm presently playing HFW on a slightly downvolted RTX 3060 12gb, at 1080p. By researching which specific graphical settings are actually worth raising, and which ones are just wasting resources, I can get a steady 70-75 FPS pretty much everywhere with absolutely gorgeous graphics. And as for those 12gb of VRAM, they allow you to play with higher resolution textures which makes a big difference in graphical detail. And besides gaming, those 12gb come in handy for tinkering with AI image generation software, like Stable Diffusion.

192bit bus, full x16 lanes, 12gb vram .... and by applying ultra textures, + mods 12gb vram will definitely come in handy. ofc it will provide less fps than 4060 in some latest titles but it will be smooth and stable and atleast no texture blurrs or stutters.... and even framge generation needs more vram hence 4060 is already struggling on vram hungry games.

the most + point of 4060 is its tdp and full av1 support. if 4060 had 12gb or 16gb vram then definitely it would be worthy but with 8gb vram and 128bit bus?! no

I have had a 4060 for 6 months and am reasonably happy - you can sense it's limits when pushing games at 1440p, but overall, as an entry level card this gen, it's decent. The energy consumption vs. performance delivered is a clear bonus. I will switch it out for a 4070 soon though, as I prefer gaming at 1440p and I think that would be better for my set-up. No regrets though and I will hold the card as a back up.

If only the RTX 4060 has 10 gb vram instead of 8 with the same specs and price, it would be one of the best cards in history on Quality/ price value
But the problem is that 12gb in the 3060 will be more helpful in the future games like gta 6 for example.
Well, I think I will wait for the 5060 and let's hope it don't come with 8gb vram as well.

Many commenters do not realize that memory alone does not mean higher quality or better performance, now or in the future. This video perfectly shows how important technical progress is and how it affects the development of the technologies we use. Just look at the fact that other cards also have more memory, which does not mean that they have stood the test of time. If we are to rely solely on the amount of VRAM, we can say that 1080Ti or even 2080Ti should be better than 4060. Coming to the essence of the matter, many people only look at the numbers and do not realize that drivers, technical design, newer controllers, newer APIs are more important because the GPU can use its power more effectively. Likewise, we forget that developers optimizing their productions will not bother with GPU that is 3-4 years old or more, they will optimize their productions based on the latest architecture, which is why, among other things, slower RAM and its smaller amount do not affect lower performance. RTX 3060 is only better when you currently have it in terms of replacing the GPU, if you are building a new computer, never go back a few years because a few numbers are higher. Of course, we are talking about the case assuming a given budget, if you currently have a top-shelf GPU and you want a budget GPU, for it to be worth changing, you have to wait 2 and sometimes even 3 generations.

With AMD fsr 3 working with the rtx 3000 seris cards, i have seen many rtx 3060 doing really great with it.

Just to clarification RTX 3060 better for old PC limited 16gb RAM.
RTX 4060 if you have modern PC fully pci-e 4 (limited x8), rebar enable with 32gb RAM for not stuttering add nice m2 with cache Ram.

I chose the 4060 simply because of the low heat and low power draw. It is absolutely paramount in sff build. People shit on frame gen, but it's an absolute dream in racing/sim games. But if you play mostly fps games, then it's dogshit.

The 4060 is targeted at people who are still using the 1060 and lower cards. It is literally aimed at people who play older games.

Meanwhile 8gb 3070 performs about 20-40% more ..so vram definitely isn't the issue

I would go with the 4060. I don't like having to make that many compromises that came with the 3060. The 4060 preformed well especially in the Alan Wake test I thought it showed better than expected.

Liked and subbed.

Did you do anything to your POV footage? I usually get motion sickness on any 1st person video, but your footage didn't trigger it. Maybe it has to do with the stabilization or how smoothly it moves. Regardless, great video!

I have said in some other comments I made that I was not super happy with my RTX 4060 investment. That said, It is in my second rig and not primary. Also I forgot to mention that I do indeed think the RTX 4060 has a few things going for it. It's extremely power efficient, It's nice for upscaling thanks to DLSS and it does indeed have frame generation. Even if the VRAM kinda limits framegen in many cases. So far I have no issues doing 1440p with it in the modern games I have. Upscaling and textures a notch down and I have 60 fps +. It's not a bad card, but I think it should have been cheaper for what it is. But then again, graphics cards are kinda overpriced. Also, in this video it is very clear that the RTX 4060 is quite a bit better VS the 3060. Even though it's nice that the 3060 has 12GB VRAM, in many cases it doesn't have the GPU power to back up that VRAM.

Speaking from experience and personal testing, I do video editing and rendering. I compared the RTX 3060 Ventus 2 vs the Asus RTX 4060 and the difference was night and day. It takes the 4060 to compile 2 times faster than the 3060. Both were the same price at around $300.

I just built my PC about a month ago and Im satisfied so far.. I went with the Ryzen7700x(asusB650) with the RTX3060 and I get 110fps in GTAV ultra settings and 180+in CS2

What if I personally own a 1920 x 1080 monitor and want to use the 4060 for 1080p gaming?

I'm still running a 1650.

I think the 4060 is a fantastic card, but it was and is significantly over cost for the midrange we want. Prior to covid, there was a midrange of 150-200£. The midrange needs to get back to here really.

I have one angle where I would take the 3060, and that is with AI and compute. The extra ram is a true benefit in that area.

Now turn on max textures or try 1440p, 3060 will destroy it.

The 8GB on both 4060 and 4060 Ti is really a shame. The 4060 Ti 16GB becomes a completely useable 60fps 1440p GPU just because of the extra VRAM because it can actually use FG effectively.
