DON’T Buy a Rolex Daytona Until You See This

The Daytona is not just one of Rolex’s, but luxury watchmaking’s, most popular watches. Despite its not inconsiderable £10,500 price—that’s more expensive than the cheapest new car on sale today, the Dacia Sandero—it flies off shelves like its more valuable than gold. Which it is. By double. People will spend that and more fighting to own this legend of a watch, but that doesn’t mean it’s perfect. Here are five annoying things about the Rolex Daytona.

He should have said "good news, the Dacia Sandero is now cheaper than a watch"

You forgot a big one. The left and right lugs are different sizes. Ever since it was pointed out to me, I cannot unsee it.

Mat Watson wants to know whether you should
- avoid it
- consider it
- shortlist it
- or just go right ahead and buy it (over list price)

“The links were as hollow as my promise to eat better”!! Real Jeromy Clarkson level similes and metaphors. Excellent job!

I just got a Meca-Quartz Choronograph and couldn't be happier.

To be fair, screwdown chrono buttons are annoying on any watch, especially when you actually do use them.

The best parts of your reviews are the humour.

Any truth to the rumor that the 2024 Daytona will switch from a tachymeter scale to a Viagra optimization indicator and the subdial at 3 re-scaled to a roofie-onset timer, and the hour aggregator reversed to a countdown timer for evidence removal?

Watchfinder doing his part to temper the demand for the Daytona so we can get one 😂

Two more...

1. Why are there crown guards when the crown is protected by the pushers anyway, yet the pushers don't have any protection themselves?

2. The minute counter (right subdial) does not have hashes for every minute, so '9' for example is 'not quite 10', rather than having a hash of its own. Irrelevant for 99% of current owners, but would be unacceptable back in the day when chronographs were actually used and needed to be accurately read.

Why cram "Cosmograph" in an already busy dial when the Daytona has never gone into space, while the Rolex GMT-Master has but does not have that title on it. Don't tell me Rolex has Speedy envy.

If I ever get Daytona at an AD is would go for sale in a minute and with the money I would get an El Primero, a Speedmaster and maybe a JLC Master with the spare cash. Rolex would even do me a favor for blacklisting me after that :)

I feel like the kind of person who would own a Daytona wouldn’t need to know the date since everyday is a relaxing Sunday, no stressors from any angle

#1 overpriced to hell
And I own one.
Id never pay 30k for a daytona.

Good alternatives: Tudor chronomaster, Laureato, speedmaster, Zenith...Hell even Breitling.
Different price ranges, same if not better quality, dont feed the hype

There’s a bigger problem with the Daytona: even if you can get one probably you end up NOT wearing it (too risky in every sense possible).

Today I tried on this exact Daytona model. (Yes, it was reserved for someone else.) I thought I would find the rubber strap to be uncomfortable, but it turned out to be exceptionally comfortable. As for its looks, I find it to be classy yet athletic. In short, this Daytona gets two thumbs up from me.
