To make it easy to connect external devices to your arduino, and have efficient fast communication, we need communications protocols. Your Arduino comes with built-in communications protocols, and this is what this lecture is about. In this lecture I'll talk about one of the three communications options that come with the Arduino Uno, the serial UART. Using serial UART, you can connect external devices such as GPS and Wifi modules, Bluetooth and much more.

This video lecture is part of the course Tech Explorations Arduino Step by Step Getting Started. This course is perfect for people new to the Arduino. It will help you learn and master the basics, and teach you how to write programs, use LEDs, environment sensors, accelerometers, LCD screens and much more. You will also learn basic prototyping techniques to help you build your first gadget.

The instructor of the course is Dr Peter Dalmaris, an engineer and hobbyist with over 20 years experience in higher education and 5 years dedicated to online teaching. Peter is the author of Maker Education Revolution, a book about Making, and how Making is changing the way we learn and teach. Peter is also the host of Stemiverse Podcast, in which with his co-host Marcus Schappi he interviews the shakers and movers in STEM education.
