I guess this is more the story about how it had been stolen...now the team is back in Finnish hands. But the arena still belongs to these oligarchs and this is an evolving story, so may change at any point.

I actually cannot believe this only has 2.2k views. I only noticed halfway througu the video.. the quality is equal to a big channel. I wouldn't be surprised if something like this had 2.2m views. Great work really 👏

Fantastic video: Edutainment at it's finest! An eloquent rabbit hole with content that needs to be talked about and is presented in a digestible form with humour.

As an old school Jokerit fan, who lost all interest after the KHL move I am so happy they are back. In a proper place doing grassroots junior work and playing passionate hockey. They even have the proper colors on their kit again!

I'm a Dundee Stars fan, a Scottish hockey team that play in the UK's EIHL. There was a similar story with the KHL trying to establish a London-based team. Yep, a team on the other side of the continent. Unsure why they would bother doing that considering the London Knights collapsed after just a season. I think it's better if teams stick to their country's respective leagues so that way we can strengthen ourselves domestically and encourage homegrown talent rather than giving into money and greed.

Bro you just offended half of Helsinki by calling Jokerit it's biggest team. For those who dont know Helsinki is the battleground for probably the most fiercest sport rivalry in Finland, between HIFK (Idrottsföreningen Kamraterna, Helsingfors) and Jokerit and btw HIFK is the better of the two when it comes to medals. Pre-2014 HIFK has achieved 7 Finnish Championships, 5 Silver Medals and 9 Bronze medals while Jokerit only 6 Finnish Championships, 6 Silvers and 2 Bronze medals. HIFK and Jokerit also played in 3 Winter Classics in 2011, 2012 and 2014 with HIFK winning all 3. The 2014 Winter Classic is particularly important because its the last time HIFK and Jokerit played against one another and before the Winter Classic, game wins between HIFK and Jokerit against each other were 105-105 which is why it was advertised as the game to decide who was the King in Helsinki, HIFK won 2-1 winning the Kingship of Helsinki

Have you come across a Finnish band called Sleepy Sleepers and their album cover "Born In The S.A.V.O." (1985)? In the late 80s the core members of the band formed a band called Leningrad Cowboys. Film director Aki Kaurismäki directed their first music video, which resulted in the short film "Rocky VI" (1986). After two further short films, "Thru the Wire" (1987) and "L.A. Woman" (1988), Kaurismäki decided to direct a feature film about them, "Leningrad Cowboys Go America" (1989). Sequel was titled "Leningrad Cowboys Meet Moses" (1994). In 1993 the band performed with the Red Army Choir in "Total Balalaika Show" in Helsinki Senate Square. In that same year the band and the Red Amy Choir performed in the MTV Music Awards held at the Radio City Music Hall in New York. In the show they covered Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Sweet Home Alabama ". Why would the Red Army Choir take part in such project? Some have said that after the Soviet Union collapsed, they needed the money. There's also this place called Kafe Moskva in Helsinki created on purpose to be so bad, that no one wants to come there. Just thinking about hard and soft power, how would all that fit into it? Keeping in mind that McDonald's opened in the Soviet Union in 1990. And there's also this Red Penguins case to consider, in which in the early 90s the ice hockey teams Pittsburgh Penguins and the CSKA Moscow formed a joint venture. There's a documentary about it. Another entertaining topic, business and business ethics relating documentary, about the early years of mobile game industry, would be "Riot On Documentary (2002)".

Now that they're playing in Mestis, Finland's second tier ice hockey league, Jokerit's future is getting brighter.

Thanks for the great video, good to hear a foreign perspective and nice to see you agree on basically all the points.

There was no real benefit in selling Jokerit to Russia, other than not getting killed and 'appeasing' the Russian bear for a short while. This used to be Finnish foreign policy towards Russia before Russia launched its full scale war against Ukraine. Now almost all official links are cut off between the two countries and only these shady links remain. Removing these ties is now number one priority in Finland, but since especially Eastern Finland used to rely heavily on Russian tourism and import-exports, it's also now a financial back country that needs innovative R&D and foreign investments. If done right, these investments will modernize Finland but if Finns trust the wrong people, it only escalates the economic and social imbalance between West-East, North-South in Finland.
