The German financial system has had its share of dysfunction in recent decades, such as the prudential and conduct challenges affecting regional banks (Landesbanken), several commercial banks, and more recently, the Wirecard payments company and Greensill Bank. Even so, German financial reforms have been less comprehensive than those in most other European countries. Can the forthcoming coalition government change the status quo?
