I think you were kind of right about Intel when you said they COULD come back and surprise everyone. The problem is that they have been lying about their nodes and realistic timetables for YEARS, so at this point when we naively assume they are getting it right *this* time, the cynic has to say, "Okay, but why aren't they lying this time too?"

TSMC's 5nm process isn't raching 50% yield yet. There was a breakdown on AdoredTV's website where this claim was traced back to its source, and it turns out that a test CPU that's based on a Cortex A72 reaches 50% yield. This is a much smaller chip than what is needed for those AMD 8-core chiplets though, so the yield the process would give for those is smaller than 50%. It's not even known whether those 50% yield refers to the entire Cortex A72, or just one single core of it.

We all know AMD is crushing intel now in terms of value, single core performance, multi core performance, efficiency, process technology, etc, etc.

But I feel the mindshare is still in intels favor for a lot of non enthusiasts and casual / less informed gamers and consumers.

I play several games competitively, not professional but amateur leagues. But I’m also enthusiast inclined and build PCs.

I play with a few people who still rock their quad core i7s in desktops and laptops from 2-3 years ago who are still firmly thinking that they blow any any and all AMD processors and think AMD is a joke still.

It’s sad really.

They say Intel 10nm=TSMC 7nm but if it is so late who cares?

I feel like the biggest point about the 'moving target' is that people understand that AMD will have some improvements, but they have gotten used to the pace from the last few years, which makes them think that the 40% IPC upgrade is something AMD can't catch up to/have better by then, which makes them disbelief the leaks and/or think AMD will not be competitive again for the upcomming years again, because they aren't used to the fast evolving market how it is forming again now.

3:29 Be sure to take that "50% yield" statement with a grain of salt, as it gives no die size. It could be yielding @50% on a die the size of a ... grain of salt.

It's Lisa Su who said that to reach 7nm and beyond it took 3 of them collaborating.. It was tsmcz amd and I forget the third player...

Can you do a video on intel and their marketing lies! Just ridiculous saying an i3 is better than ryzen 3600. Love your content. Keep up the good work.

Frigging love your segue way to your sponsor. I honestly just watch LTT for their amusing sponsor ads if it isn't just copy/pasted, and I love your doing it in the same vein. Keep it up!

I was pissing on Intel’s lackluster performance back in 2016. They were falling behind back then. I got into an argument on WSJ.com with readers because I said it was due to diversity hiring and laying off experienced engineers. I was told to shove it and wait until Intel’s moral hiring practices showed its true strength. Still waiting.

Intel can just contact Samsung and have them make 7nm for them, ,
And GlobalFoundry to make them the others,
While Intel fab factory just fill the gap.

But nooo,
Intel choose to spend more on Marketing BS, play shady and being denial.

Remind me of Nokia, Kodak and IBM
😕

I want Competition stay for another 4 years,
Do something special Intel !!

To today, i still don't understand what the heck is going on inside Intel... It is not like nobody saw it coming, i mean, the thread was well clear to the naked eye 2 years ago... And now they need 20nm to be alive again/
Don't get it, honestly...
