I despise this quest. Whistle to distract the rapists, try to mount horse with the jerks right behind, try to get horse turned around with clunky-as-hell PC controls, head down the road with them in hot pursuit, cut-screen to getting shot in the leg, then back to road with arrows hitting me in the back, and dead before I'm even close to destination. Rinse and repeat. I hate it.

I bought this game years ago as my alternative in case I fell out of love with WOW. Installed it the other day and was having fun until this quest. I could not control the horse. Watching this video showed me the correct route and how the horse should look if moving up to speed. Then I cruised around online to find out how to control the horse with keyboard and mouse. This is what worked for me on

Mouse used only to keep Henry looking in the right direction if needed. WASD to control horse direction. You must hold down W to keep the horse continually moving forward. Brief taps on A or D to keep horse on the path. Hold down the Left Shift button to keep the horse moving at a gallop. I had to double tap the gallop a few times to goose the horsie when he slowed down on his own (not sure why). Otherwise, slow down only if the horse is about to drop dead from exhaustion.

Before resuming the quest, I mapped gallop to the Right Shift button because of arthritis in my left hand. My left hand cannot hold down Left Shift and W and tap A and D with any skill. To practice hand eye coordination, I loaded an earlier version of Henry and ran him around the roads in Skalitz on foot. When that felt comfortable enough, I resumed the quest. I did die a time or two but much farther along the road than in any initial attempt. I saved game ASAP after arriving in Talmberg, don't want to repeat that quest any time soon.

It's a mystery to me how developers could produce such brilliant game design but completely screw it up with the begining of the game where the players need to get acustomed to riding the horse for the very first time. Don't know about normal difficulty but I play only on hardcore and you have zero cues on your horse stamina, and arrows deal each more damage it seems.
I've tried about half dozen times and still can't get through. I play permadeath strictly so you can imagine the frustration.

I have died over 20 times trying to escape on that damned horse. These are the worse key controls for a horse in any game I have ever played. Ruins the game at start.

Someone tell me how a fully plated horse with a full plated Cuman on it faster and has more stamina than our character

anybody struggling you need to call your horse, immediatley get on it and turn it the right direction, and then you need to sprint not just walk, like double tap the shift key. i almost uninstalled the game haha i feel the pain.

Just started the game and have spent way too many hours in Skalitz. Finally decided to continue the main quest. Died because the horse got stuck between the shed and fence. About to die again because I missed the first bridge. Horse decided to go cross country or maybe wanted to cool his feet in the stream. Thought I'd better look it up to learn what I'm supposed to be doing, where to go, how to survive it. From your vid, I appreciate the route. Thanks. From the comments? OMG wondering how many times I'll die before I get there:( On PC. Very clunky maneuvering. I thought Witcher 1 was bad. And Tomb Raider from so many years ago. I can still hear Lara's screams. Really love RPG, bracing myself to be seriously bummed if I can't make it past this part.

Wow that took me 10 tries + plugging my PS4 controller to my PC. I was about to rage quit. You need to press FORWARD while in double shift. The whole time. Awful.

who of the devs thought its a good idea to put in some unskippable mission that totally relies on RNG? i got better things to do then try over and over and wait for good "luck". maxspeed zig zag still gets u killed. as i said. its RNG. dumb

Tried god knows how many times but I can't control the stupid animal! He just gallops into the fields like it's a game to him! WTF!!!! Seriously, any tutorial on how to fecking control the horse?

Ok totally went off road through the a woods to the left off the road jumping between trees and creeks with space. Hands totally off the mouse just on your arrow keys Consistantly clicking shift and you will get through it easy.

found out that if you double tap te shift key then it makes your horse sprint. just be careful of the stamina bar as you will need to slow down and allow it to fill back up again. in that time try to just zig and zag to avoid any arrows.

This needs to be changed. I'm otherwise excited about the game, but this is nearly impossible, and impossible for me so far. Waste of money. It's going to have a terrible review soon if this is not immediately fixed. Awful.
