Apple today brought its Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro software to the iPad for the first time, allowing content creators to use their tablets for video editing and sound recording. We decided to test out Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro to see how they measure up to the Mac versions.

MacRumors video editor Dan Barbera uses Final Cut Pro to edit the videos that you see on MacRumors, so it's software that he's very familiar with. He doesn't use Logic Pro as often, but takes a look at the interface differences.

Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro for ‌iPad‌ promise to deliver many of the same features that are available on the Mac, with a touch-first interface that's optimized for the ‌iPad‌. Dan will be editing a full video on the ‌iPad‌ using Final Cut Pro, so keep an eye out for that follow-up to the initial hands-on look.

Final Cut Pro requires an M1 chip or later, so it is limited to Apple's newest iPads. Logic Pro requires an A12 Bionic chip or later. The apps are priced at $4.99 per month or $49 per year in the United States, with a one-month free trial available.

Finally a real first impression, thanks for this. All the others who had early access to these apps sound like commercials for Apple.

Seems like if the desktop version is "Final Cut Pro", this should be "Final Cut".

That wheel to the right… I bought a “Teenage Engineering” Bluetooth infinite scrolling hardware wheel thinking those would work on FCP on Mac.
It doesn’t at all, it’s actually a midi thing and only goes from -127 to 127 and it blocks further signals afterwards.
Would be great if they gave support for it now that the idea of a nudge spinner is floating right there in front of us!

Intersting. I figured their BG removal mode was gonna be exclusive to Cinematic Mode clips. I wonder if they take advantage of those shots, though, and make them look REALLY good as compared to the AI removal for flat clips.

I been trying to edit a 8k 30fps on my iPad Pro M2 with FPCX and it doesn’t even playback, but if I open the same Video on the same iPad with Davinci Resolve I have no issues at all, the playback it’s really smooth, If by the end of my trial they don’t fix that I’m gonna cancel it.

Actually, I have a couple questions! Does Final Cut have object tracking like it does for the mac? Also, does it have the “earthquake” effect? Thanks bud

Dan IMO you should have gotten the YEARLY subscription for this app because you’re saving $64.32 a year after tax for the app

Not exactly sure what the sales tax rate in Cuyahoga county is so I used the tax rate in Montgomery county

What about Media Management? That's the primary reason I've stayed away from FCP in general. FX's are nice but on a day to day work flow Media Management is the way projects are organized and finished professionally. Seems like Apple still doesn't get it.
