Final Cut Pro 2 on M4 iPad Pro: what you need to know

Exceptional hardware, great battery life, incredible screen, so thin and so light, but the M4 iPad Pro, just like every iPad, comes with some software limitations. Apple is on a mission to prove that the iPad can be used for professional work. That includes releasing its own professional apps like Final Cut Pro for iPad, Logic Pro for iPad. This year, Apple is updating both, but is also releasing a brand new standalone video-only app called Final Cut Camera. #Apple #Technology

Which features do you desperately want on the iPad version of Final Cut Pro?

I just picked up an ipad as my first apple device and it boggles my mind how they're pushing something like a full on video editor but just the flipping files app is an attrocity

Wow, I was looking for a good video on using Final Cut Pro for beginners, I'm getting the M4 iPad Pro tomorrow and you answered literally all my questions so good. Thank you so much!

I wish you could also do a comparison/review with other iPad editing apps like Davinci Resolve and Lumafusion!

Does this mean that Apple basically still hasn’t added external drive support? I mean, what’s the point of external drive support if we’re expected to finish editing an entire video before disconnecting the drive and breaking all the file links?

I just downloaded FCP for iPad a few days ago and was waiting for the update because of the external drive support. I’m not sure if I missed something but I was able to work off my ssd before this update. What’s the difference ?

Please do a comparison of Lumafusion vs FCP vs CapCut. I've been using Luma for the last 3 years. Honestly I love the design of FCP for iPad, but I hate how lacking it is compared to Luma. Also I want to learn what the hype is about with Capcut. Can you do a tutorial on advanced color grading with iPad's FCP?

Been using iPad Pro (my only device) with iMovie for 8 years now running a YouTube channel. Its so much easier than laptops. Don’t try to move your current work flow. Make a new simpler one with iPad and it works so well ❤️😊

Will Final Cut Pro go into full screen on an external display now? Version 1.3. would only run as an iPad sized window making big screens not super useful…

Apple's idea of 'pro' users are people who own an external drive and want to pay $50/year, and no further thought given to them.
By the way, can someone explain to me why Final Cut and Logic are subscription based? They don't host content from creators (like musical artists, film studios, news outlets). What is the subscription supporting? The newest ipads cost more than macbooks, why is it not included?
Great video by the way, and thanks for pointing out the terrible file system.

I've made peace with Apple's philosophy on the iPad. There are certain workflows that I can only accomplish on my Mac, and there are certain workflows that I can only accomplish on my iPad, with the Apple Pencil. Continuity and iCloud often bridges the divide between these two devices beautifully.

Once I changed my mindset, my frustration melted away. It's not meant to be a replacement for a Mac, and it will never be, so the sooner you accept this, the happier you'll be.

I find I need to pair InShot (which I LOVE) with FCP. A really good duo.

Negligible to no file management and yet somehow this a PROFESSIONAL grade application...

This is great. Would love to see one of these but for Logic Pro on the M4 iPad Pro.

I have the M4 pro 11 inch and honestly, it reminds me of the same experience I had with windows RT. I’m working with da Vinci resolve for iPad. The problems you’re having with final cut managing files are the same the rest of us are having with da Vinci resolve. It’s a problem with the iPad operating system and methodology, not with the software which works fine on other operating systems. Apple believes if they annoy me enough on the iPad, but I’ll buy a MacBook but that’s not true. I’ll go back to my Lenovo yoga C9 40 before I buy a MacBook. I bought the M4 pro because of its processors and excellent energy efficiency. If Apple would make a MacBook with a touchscreen, I would buy it in a heartbeat.

I agree with all your comments. What Final Cut Pro for iPad does, it does very well. The UI is excellent and processing is efficient. However, the feature set is incomplete. Missing is the ability to use third party LUT for log processing and effects that optimize for stabilization and video noise/sharpness. Color correction and grading is done with sliders which reduces to a lot of trial and error. The philosophy seems to be that these functions are best done in camera; nice sentiment but not completely pragmatic. For time being will pass on subscription until feature set is further along (if it ever gets there).
