I had one, like 15 years ago. The pocket staff was never intended to be a weapon. It was a magicians tool, it's what they were using for those "wands" that appeared from thin air. This recent marketing campaign of theirs is incredibly misleading.

I wanted to impulse buy this so bad, but I knew something so cool had to be poorly designed. This staff is not a real weapon, it’s just a novelty item with a fairly dangerous but super cool pull out game.

That is a magicians appearing cane. It is a prop for stage magic. All they did was market it to weapon nerds. It's not intended to be a weapon.
