SpaceX Dragon’s Crew-10 arrives at ISS as stranded NASA astronauts prepare to return home

A four-person crew from the SpaceX Dragon capsule arrived at the International Space Station (ISS) Sunday to relieve the two NASA astronauts who have been stranded in space for the last nine months.

The crew-swap mission has been treated as a priority since U.S. President Donald Trump took office again in January. Though the mission was delayed numerous times at the 11th hour, Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams are preparing to leave the ISS orbiting lab and travel back to Earth Wednesday.

Problems with the Starliner capsule forced NASA to bring back the Boeing vessel without the veteran NASA astronauts months prior.

SpaceX Crew-10’s 29-hour mission began Friday at 7:03 p.m. ET upon launch from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The team arrived at the ISS at 12:04 a.m. ET on Sunday. Wilmore and Williams will show the new crew how to operate the ISS before departing. The SpaceX astronauts are scheduled to stay for six months.
