All my friend's and my newer Toyotas and Jeeps have all broken down, but my 04' Discovery 2 completely OEM that I've had since HS has never broken down has become the "Recovery 2" of the group to help Toyota and jeeps that are broken down or stuck.

In line thermostat is another option to help with the cooling, An Ultra Gauge to keep an eye on temps etc. are big ones for your temps. Yup driveshafts went with the TW myself after a few replacements. But I do love my rover.

Yeah according to my digital temp gauge the lower thermostat still let's it hover in the 200 to 215 range if you're in the summer so I did the inline thermostat which gets rid of that huge heater bypass and now I'm in the 180s and if it gets cool out I have to go up to a 190 element to not throw a temperature being too low code LOL

Lift it 4 inches then fit a Glynn Lewis wide angle front prop and a 200 tdi rear. Remove both anti roll bars. 35 inch tyres and chop the arches. Good to go 😁

If you guys haven't tried the inline yet I recommend it more than a factory upgrade. So I have a major question right now mine has the ome heavy duty 2-in springs and I removed my rear sway bar. It does articulate better but those heavy duty springs feel like they prevent a little although I think they also make it safer on the road with the lack of sway bar how do you feel about that? I've heard some people say that Medium Springs with sway bar feel about the same as heavy duty springs without sway bar. Also if I'm running those HD Springs is it safe to take the sway bar off the front I know the engine weight is much more predominant up there compared to in back weight

Everyone like to bash Landrovers. Have owned many brands of 4wds from Toyota to Suzuki even Lada's. Nothing compares to my Landrover discovery 2. Been the most reliable 4wd I have owned. Had it 10 years and travelled most of Australia in it. Regular maint and replace parts when they are worn and you will never have a problem. The best part about them is they are so cheap. I can buy 5 discovery 2's for the price of 1 similar age landcruiser here in Australia. My son is a landcruiser mechanic and he even advised me not to by a landcruiser as they are way over priced.

The most important thing to remember is to get the Td5, not the V8, that eliminates most engine-related problems including the overheating prop shafts.

I personally put 110, 000 miles on my 2004. You should not be burning through front driveshafts. I've finally replaced my original one, and the new one should last forever.
You are installing something incorrectly if you burn through drive shafts.
Best cooling option is a good gauge to measure temps. The default gauge is useless, as if shows hot, you have already damaged your engine.
Get the inline thermostat mod, so you can more easily change out the thermostat. Running at 180 doesn't actually do much (and I run one) other than give you a bit of extra room for heat. Remember this is the temp floor.

But also Gwin Lewis sumo bars. 304 stainless steel track and steering rods

The driveshaft really needs to be #1, then the thermostat #2.

You recomend a thermostat change when the OEM setup on the TD5 diesel has more than adequate cooling capacity for extended operation in over 40deg temps - a load of bollocks on your part.
- perhaps you just forgot to mention that you have experience only with the Petrol V8?

My right cat throws a code every month or so. I spray this foamy stuff down the Upstream 02 sensor hole and then drive it and clears it for a while getting better power and mileage. I think maybe it's from the secondary air system throwing dust into your exhaust and if you've ever had a manifold gasket leak that you didn't fix right away. Thinking of getting aftermarket cats but can't afford it quite yet or at least don't want to lol overall mine drives with no engine light or Amigos on the average.

I have a D2 with all the plastics intact! If I could get it to stop throwing codes i'd trade them all.

What size tires do you have on those 18" wheels

getting the Td5 eliminates all these issues. getting the diesel means you have a reliable and extremely capable off roader

Removing the rear sway bars will also impact your insurance, as these were fitted by the factory for a reason. Proud owner of a very effective 2002 TD5 Disco 2

Mine came with the fancy ARB front bumper and honestly I don't really like it LOL the person who did it only put the bolts going Crossways but not underneath so if I winch too hard at an up or down angle it will look like it's bending forward and I have to realign it but I'd like to get the time without bull bars to show the headlights and Grill more

The fact that your Discovery breaks down constantly doesn’t automatically mean that EVERY Disco 2 is such a headache.

Maybe you just need to spend more time driving it with cautiousness more than complaining about it.

The tips where useful but I just couldn’t stand your personal attitude against the vehicle which must people happen to love, so just a piece of advice and lose that attitude 👍

There seems to be so much fakeness in this report. I don't like the speaker's attitude, and I must comment on the speed of her speech. If she really needs to influence people, she must speak more slowly and clearly. Sorry, guys - I live in beautiful Cape Town, South Africa, and we speak ENGLISH here! I have owned a 1999 Disco 2 V8 for twenty-two years, and it remains the most amazing and reliable vehicle I have owned. It has had all four of its traditional "problems" which have been quickly and effectively repaired! I am eighty years old, and I would take my Disco 2 anywhere in South Africa at the drop of the proverbial hat!
