The Texas rig will always be a mainstay for bass anglers, but the Tokyo Rig, aka punch shot rig, has made major inroads as a terminal system for fishing soft plastics in wide-ranging situations. Patrick Walters was an early adopter and explains why the Tokyo Rig is his preferred way to present plastics in pitching scenarios.

The Tokyo rig just makes more sense, especially in and around cover where fish r a lot about sight, if water's r dirtier, on point info!

I bought some Tokyo rig tackle last year but have not used it yet. I'm gonna whip it out this coming spring/summer and see how it goes.

I fish tidal coastal fresh water rivers and I use it around heavy cover with a much lighter weight. it is an odd presentation that they don't see very often it is extremely versatile. I swim it, bounce it and generally fish it like a swim jig. it has landed me some of my largest bass

Baloney. Anyone who's seen a video of how bass "eat" knows they suck in or inhale the entire bait - they engulf it. They don't bite down like humans do on a cheeseburger. This entire ridiculous contraption goes into their mouth - bait, hook, swivel, connections, rigid wire, and weight. Maybe the bait will go 1st but the wire and weight are directly connected and thus can easily smack the fish's mouth and be felt which can cause rejection. Sure, this thing can catch fish but so will anything if the fish are hungry/aggressive. Some dude caught a big bass on a chicken mcnugget for cryin out loud. If it's moving, shiny, colorful, etc. it's food. If this thing is so great, how many tournament anglers are throwing it? How many times did it snag up or get fouled with weeds? It's full of metal with several joints and intersections that can easily collect weeds, get hung up on wood, rocks, etc. This very important aspect of any bait/lure/rig was ignored completely. The rigid wire on this is connected loosely and therefore it flops all over the place unless you continuously fish it fast. Finally, bending the rigid wire to hold a weight is a hassle and it's just another connection to collect weeds. Sorry, not buying it, literally or figuratively and especially not with my hard-earned dough.
