I read in one article that this ship had to be transported to Severodvinsk for service and modernization, but operation started and plans changed. The name of the ship is symbolic, but in fact it was old and there could be an accident.

The British lost 7 ships during the Falklands war, among them 2 destroyers and 2 frigates.
The sink of Moskva is surely a big loss for Russians, but what puzzles me is the absence of Neptune missiles usage (I read somewhere they were used once before and intercepted, but I couldn't verify it), during the many weeks' blockade of Odesa.

Russians are not as sensitive to things as the West. This ship could become a museum, like the Aurora in St. Petersburg. It makes me sad.

Because it had a hole in it. I state this with a very high degree of certainty. Really, it is why most ships sink.

Russia would not want to repair this old ship, so open the floodgates and sink it away from port.

Was it really the Russian flagship???
It was 43 years old. Surely the Russian Navy has newer & more sophisticated Warships that merit the title of flagship?

I think it was damaged by something that came outside of Ukrainian.

I remember the sinking of the HMS Sheffield in 1982, I was 12 and was cheering for the Argentines and laughed all day long about it ha ha ha

I remember that the British government protested to the French government about exocet missiles being sold to Argentina. And now? UK is to supply Harpoon anti ship missiles to Ukraine.

Five major British warships were sunk during the Falklands War, but the most significant lost of the war was Argentina's primary warship the General Belgrano torpedoed by a RN submarine. Over 800 men were killed.

The fact is that Ryssian gave the news first. Ukraine followed Russian news

By the way, the British won that battle with Argentina, even after several of there ships were lost

Hit by missles should've sunk it immediately. Let them explain 1000 marines surrendering

The interesting part of the HMS Sheffield was that Britain lied about the circumstances until recently in order to be able to continue to export the Type 42 destroyers to other countries as 'state of the art' warships (a French EXOCET bypassed the anti-air defenses, but failed to detonate - and yet the kinetic impact destroyed sprinkler systems, and sprayed rocket fuel ignited fires, so that the ship eventually sunk while being towed as well).

The Royal Navy lost 2 destroyers and 2 frigates as well as support ships - that is the equivalent of two thirds of a regular carrier escort - while the Argnetinians lost aircraft due to their use of free fall bombs.

It was diplomatic pressure on France to not sell any more EXOCET missiles to Argentina - that had preserved the British carrier, thereby the crucial naval air support in that remote region - and ultimately the Malvinas (Argentina lost the conflict, anyway).

Now, in the Ukraine that would translate as that the West is now sending HARPOON missiles and likely will have already prepared modified launch trucks - possibly disguised as civilian trucks - like Libya, Iraq and Syria was flooded with US funded Toyota 'technicals'.

While definite proof will depend on footage of the wreck - something neither side had been willing to provide when it would have been simple to do - one has to assume that Russia is now aware of the US sharing real time military intelligence with the Ukraine - which makes them de facto an active participant in the conflict.

One can inteprete the Russian diplomatic note about sending arms as a formal signal that some form of retalliation is to be expected.

Meanwhile, nobody adressed that projects for the Sino-Russian 'permanent moon base' had been accelerated to begin a decade earlier: 2025 than 2036.
Apart from 'fighting Nazis, hidden on the dark side' (quite a few on the Western Political Right entertain that fantasy) - this 'ultimate high ground' will grant 'Eurasia' a launch platform for eyes unto battlefields when all other satellites had been shot out of the sky...

This puts the recent top level visits, both by Russia and China, to space launching sites into a perspective.

(What everyone had expected last year)

Nothing surprising. Old veterans go on a well-deserved rest. What a Russian veteran, what an American... sooner or later everyone has a moment in life when they want to retire.

Eleven ships lost the Pirates in the war of the South Atlantic... 11 ships lost to an air force that had fewer than 100 attack aircraft, the British fleet being outside the range of the Argentine airforce.

It is not a big deal if it sank, for now. When the war ends Russia can always recover it from the sea. I believe this will be absolutely necessary because of valuable technology that is of importance to the Russian Navy on board the ship. This has been done in the past.
