Показать описание
Ecossaise, written in 1825, is one of the last piano pieces written by the eminent composer Ludwig van Beethoven. Composed long after Beethoven gave up trying to cure his deafness, the piece initially had no dedication. Beethoven’s publisher made the move to dedicate the miniature to a certain Duchess Sophie of Austria. Though texture is simple, short, and sparse, the piece maintains a strong sense of unity in keeping to the 3-5-4-3 melody for both the first section’s fifth and sixth measures and the second section’s first and second measures. The fifth, and sixth measures from the second section duplicates the melody at a higher octave before the piece is brought to a conclusion.

Date: 1825
Catalogue: WoO 86
Dedicatee: Sophie von Wittelsbach of Bavaria (dedication by C. F. Müller)
Performer: Gianluca Cascioli on piano
