I drove this highway on my way to the University of Alaska back in the fall of 1965. It was all gravel back then and I remember before the trip I made a plexiglass cover for my windshield. I was warmed that the 18 wheel trucks kicked up lots of stones and one really needed this or you would have Yukon Roses covering the windshield. I also had to put fiver glass shields inside my fenders. This was to protect the fenders from becoming blown out be the gravel. Also there was so much dust when stuck behind other vehicles. I believe I was on it for a week. The vehicle was a 1965 VW Beetle that my parents gave me as a graduation gift for finishing my degree in geology at Lafayette college on the prior June. I had a friend with me and we camped along the way in a tent. I remember hearing animals around the tent in the middle of the night but we had been careful to put all our food and cooking gear safely in the car with all windows closed. It was the onl😮y time I rode the highway as after finishing my MS degree in November of 1967, my new wife and I took the inland passage down to Vancouver and then proceeded in the VW on to the east coast to go into the US Army for officer corps of engineers training at Ft. Belvoir, Virginia. I always looked back at this trip on this gravel road as a highlight of the fall on the year.

Did this in the summer of 2019. Three month trip from SoCal all through Alaska. Dream trip in my 15’ trailer, wife and dog and cat. Trip of a lifetime. I wanna GO BACK!!!

Josh, I envy you and your dad so much...my dad and I had talked about taking this trip when I retired from work but when I did finally retire he became very ill and passed away. How I wish we could have done what you and your Pops did. I lived thru you guys on your journey and thought a lot about how much my dad would have loved it. Keep traveling with your dad and taking those awesome videos. Steve R.

I’m an Alaskan living in Ketchikan. It’s always a thrill to listen to tourists enjoy the beauty of our state. This is why we live here!❤️

The banter between you and your dad is as fun to watch as the travel content itself.

Thanks for the video and for sharing such a wonderful memory....my parents were too busy working and making a living to be able to do this great trip....then unfortunately when we had the time and money my parents were too ill with health issues and no longer able to even think about planning...you are blessed to have this bonding time....cherish every minute

Thanks for a lovely ride! I always wanted to go to Alaska but now I am 73 and living in Baja California, México and I don't think I will get to. But I enjoyed seeing your beautiful video. ☮️💜

You guys killed it. Done the highway 25 times. Loved every trip, even at 40 below
Most southerners blow through BC and Yukon as fast as possible. Thank you for taking your time.
Love your enthusiasm,
Cheers

When my father was transferred from Ft. Richardson, AK to Ft. Hamilton, NY. in late 1965, we drove, as a small family, Mom, Dad and 4 of us young kids, the ALCAN in an old, red, Chevy II Station-Wagon. Being only 5 years old, then, I don't remember too much of the trip but I do know that it took us the better part of a week to drive the road. Thanks for this video!

You added another wonderful video. I love the way you detail things. You cover the right amount of information that someone could use for their trip. You talk of food, hotels, hikes, and things your audience might like to do. Every one of these shows you are really enjoying doing these videos, and I enjoy living vicariously through your trips. Thank you again. I'm looking forward to your next trip. And Pops, border control don't really take jokes well. That did remind me of when my ex and drove from Oklahoma to Maine, then drove around near the border in a New England loop. It was raining, I didn't know the road, so I was driving slower than normal. I pulled over at a gas station to look at the map for our next destination, and the truck following us pulled over when we did. It was the border patrol. We laughed because that far north and east, they probably didn't see too many Oklahoma plates up there. I think we were as surprised as they were. We were used to seeing border guards that were on the lookout for a totally different border! Anyway, I love all of your videos, and you really invite the viewer in to enjoy it with you. Keep up the amazing work that you do!

Oh my gosh I really enjoyed this . Brought back so many memories from 40 years ago. Having families in Whitehorse, Yukon that I have visited and even flying high over Canadas highest mountain in a 2 engine Cessna with my dad early one morning while visiting for my sisters wedding in Kluane Junction.
Now I want to see it again. So much beauty to see. ❤

This was a great way for me to spend my Saturday evening - LOVE it all!! And, especially love the love for Adventures of A+K at the Sign Post Forest!! I subscribe to both of your channels and enjoy watching all your travels. I recently took a trip to Iceland with my 80 year old mom and ended-up creating a travel video for her to share with her friends, but also with her permission to put it on YT for others to watch and learn. I was inspired by both yours and Adam and Kathryn's channels to do this, so thank you again for sharing your adventures!!

I did the entire Alcan with my best friend on bicycles in 2010. It was an awesome 23 days of riding. Such beauty, wildlife and unique places to see like Muncho Lake, Laird hot springs and riding the Beaver Creek Rollers.

Josh! I totally love watching all of your adventures on YouTube! You and your "Pops" are so fun to watch as you guys explore so many awesome and beautiful places!! Some of your videos I have watched more than once. I often show them to family members and friends. Two years ago, my sister drove along I-40 from Flagstaff, AZ into Asheville, NC. We referenced your " Route 66" video quite often to visit tourist sites along the way. I'm currently watching your Alaska Highway Road Trip. Tell Pops I said hello! He and I are about the same age. 😊
