Omg that one lady.
“It’s not your job to help him.”
That is literally the primary purpose of a waiter- to help and serve customers.

I had a deaf customer who was a regular back when I worked at ALDI. She would use her phone if she ever needed help but it was few and far between (I imagine because she didn’t want to be a “bother”)and it just didn’t sit right with me. I spent months learning extensive sign language both from videos, classes, and people I met through those resources so that I was as conversational in my ASL as I could be. The way her face lit up the day she walked in and I signed a simple “hello” will stay with me forever, it only got better when I started asking about her day and stopped several times to make small talk about groceries and the weather. After that we conversed every time she came in. By far the most useful skill I’ve learned as an adult. Communication should never have such easy to break barriers left untouched.

I'm deaf as well and seeing people stand up for us with disabilities just make me really happy and is restoring humanity for us that were born with disabilities, thank you to everyone who does this 💖 I'm really glad this world still has people who stand up for others weather they're family or a friend ❤️

I learned sign language because a deaf person came to my restaurant and i felt dumb. Now i can hold a basic conversation and fingertype the rest.

I work in customer service, and my first job after highschool I was a cashier, a deaf customer came through my line and because I took ASL, I was able to help them, and they kept coming back through my line. It made me happy to know that I could help someone, and I tear up watching this because of how people stood up. Faith in humanity is slowly being restored.

When I worked in customer service, I’ve found that deaf people are usually the kindest and most patient customers. And are always thankful when we can accommodate. It’s horrible that there really are people out there who would dismiss them over a disability
