Sword & buckler is too underrated in games and media.

I wore my 9" buckler like this at the ren faire and got a lot of comments on the small shield. One woman said "I could keep that in my purse!"

Buckler is the sleeper of shields, severely under-rated.

You forgot to mention that the buckler has more active parry frames than any other shield!

Not sure how true it is, but I remember hearing that this is how the term “swashbuckler” came about. Young rough-and-tumble men who wore their bucklers this way and walked about with swagger would have the buckler “swash” about on their hip, and obviously they were also known to be quick to draw their weapons in a disagreement. Sounds a bit too romantic but it’s a fun thought!

It's always confused me that the reason modern people who carry firearms prefer small pistols is so obvious but everyone always says in medieval times they'd carry a full heater shield and bastard sword to the market.

Maybe am doing retail too long but am thinking it'd be funny if people were using these to tap instead of cards. Like, 'Do you all take Buckler Pay?' *CLONK* 😅

Buckler stats:
+ Less effect on encumbrance
+ Faster to draw
+ Can maintain an active block without limiting your offensive options as much
- Less melee defense
- - Significantly less ranged defense

Buckler and backsword is my jam! Also your fencing shirt reminds me of the blue power ranger! ❤️

I imagine this is something we might have seen on Ashley from Vagrant Story, wandering around with his scimitar and buckler, had it been made today and not on the PS1.

I larp (Amtgard), and I fight sword and buckler. The fact I can do this with a buckler is such a nice thing at events. I don't have to have any special straps, it just fits over the pommel of my sword, and I have two free hands to do stuff with. Sit down, eat, shop, or when it's time for combat, just grab it. I love seeing this in a real steel because I love that there is historical basis in how I carry my shield.

Imagine if this guy was around in the Middle Ages. He’d have the most views and subs on YouTube!

As an early medieval reenactor, I can attest that carrying an 85 cm boss-gripped shield is a major pain in the posterior. Even with a leather strap, the sheer bother of suddenly being 85 cm wide is a serious headache to any "adventurer" in the traditional fantasy sense.

In a world I was building a while ago, I had it that citizens would carry bucklers and small shields like that. However, they were outlawed as having shields could give them an equal footing to the city guards in case of riots.

With them still being the style, nobles would have thin swords with a metal disk attached near the ricasso. Unwieldy and almost useless in combat or self defense, the main point was the surface area of the disk being a great place for embossing, engraving, inlays, and other ways to show off wealth while skirting the letter of the law.

Can you explain how your sword belt works? Seems very narrow and kinda annoying on your right hip. Don't know much about hema, so it's pure curiosity ♥️

Actually, a leather strap tied to either end of the handle lets you grab the sword handle and buckler handle at the same time, drawing them both in a single motion
