How to Uninstall and Delete Facebook Messenger

Watch our video tutorial to learn how to uninstall and delete the Facebook Messenger app on your iOS or Android device. We’ll show you step-by-step how to remove the app from your device, and how to turn off notifications if you still want to keep the app available to use on your device when it’s convenient for you.

To delete Facebook Messenger on iOS, find the app on your home screen. Then tap and hold the icon until your apps shake. Tap the X icon to delete it. Then tap Delete to confirm that you want to remove the Messenger app from your iOS device. You can still check your inbox on the Facebook mobile site.

To turn off Messenger notifications, open the Messenger app. Tap your profile icon at the top left. Then select Notifications. Enable the Do Not Disturb feature to turn notifications off. Lastly, indicate the amount of time you want to have notifications from Messenger disabled on your device.

You may also be able to turn off Messenger notifications using the notification options in the settings app built in to your device, but the steps to do that will vary from one device to another.

Not sure why messenger shows me as active even though I have the setting set to turn off active status. Also I have uninstalled in the past and it still shows me as active on messenger. Did you have any suggestions for this?

But how do you delete it permanent all the messages on both sides.and the whole account not simply uninstalled bc the messages are still there when you redownload..so if you have an evil sister who rakes messages out of context without the other ones that explain..or an upset vent..that wss simply upset needing someone to talk to..vent..if she shares them around in attempts to immbaress and humiliate and spread hate..then there should be a way to simply delete the whole account and take all conversations out of existence and out of her hands..

Even if you delete messenger app on my iPhone it still shows on Facebook when I have a message to review on messenger, so it never goes away it is so annoying I can’t get rid of messenger completely I still want to keep Facebook

The x symbol never comes up on my phone. I only get a minus symbol. Tapping on it gives options but only allows removal from home screen but retains it in my app library. I want it completely gone. Anyone have any ideas? I've been searching for hours and the process described here is the only one I can find.
