iPad Pro hardware is boss but iOS 11 still isn't gonna cut it for me. Thanks for watching 2dfam!

Gaming laptop + iPad Pro 10.5 = Win
Really, I know it's not a laptop replacement, but it can be a paper+pen replacement with all the other media-consumption capabilities it has.
I don't want an iPad for Excel sheets, or heavy tasks. I want it for organized and easy note-taking, reading PDFs, taking it to the university, etc. My 2.2 kg, 15.6-inch laptop is not portable enough for that, and can't register handwriting.
Maybe Apple is wrong by advertising the iPad Pro as the ultimate laptop replacement for everyone. However, it doesn't mean it is useless and completely inferior to a laptop.

And yeah, I have tried Windows in a touchscreen and it's unbearable for me. The UI is just not designed for touch.

Exactly Dave! Picked one up as a laptop replacement a couple of weeks ago and decide to take it back to apple for a MacBook Pro 13 inch! The iPad 10.5 is just not as efficient as an ultraportable or 2 in 1! Great video! Thanks for creating it! Keep up the awesome channel!

I agree with the fact that the iPad Pro isn't a legitimate replacement of a laptop. What Dave said are all true. The touchscreen doesn't provide that sense of convenience as much as a touch pad or a mouse does. Multitasking is still limited. It is costly and there are much better options out there, eg. Surface Pro. As contradicting as it may sound, I still encourage people to buy it if all they want from their new laptop is for it to be more portable, powerful and have long battery-life. This only works if your current laptop is not deadly slow or infected by evil plague. If it is, you can ignore what I am about to say. On the other hand, if it is slow but usable, heavy and has short battery life, maybe you wanna hear me out. Maybe you can still make use of what you already own. How? Use the iPad Pro as a complimentary product rather than a substitute. I know there are still thousands of reasons in your head that sort of bolster the idea that it won't work. It's understandable. I was struggling to decide what i could buy with my money to replace my current daily drive which isn't slow but surely is hard to carry around for work mainly due to its weight and battery life. I thought of getting a thinner, lighter, laptop with long-lasting battery life that was cheaper than the iPad Pro but what about my current device? So tablets popped up in my head. Surface Pro seemed appealing because it was a legitimate laptop's replacement. But I didn't have enough money to aim for it (the cheapest one is still pricier than the cheapest iPad Pro).

At the end, i decided to get the iPad based on three personal reasons: 1) the only things i need to do with my laptop when i carry it around is typing, reading, browsing the internet and media consumption 2) Apple Pencil, I was trying to move to a more paperless lifestyle. I had tried One-Note before and I wasn't satisfied with my experience with it. It was a risk, obviously, but a well taken risk. I am using GoodNotes on my iPad and it works really well 3) I didn't have this reason when i first made my decision. This is something i found out later. Its ability to work as a complimentary device is outstanding. It has made me learn to love the once-to-be-replaced laptop even more. I used to think that since I couldn't take it with me, there was nothing of use. I was wrong. Now, I use it to do research and prepare heavy works at home and then sync those files to Dropbox or OneDrive. When I leave for work, I just grab my iPad and continue working on it since sophisticated work has already been done. My point here is that I've unconsciously built up my sense of preparedness and as trivial as it may sound this sense of preparedness relieves the pressure of day. I should mention the use of an app called "duet" as well. It turns your iPad into a secondary desktop and I, personally, find it really helpful to my productivity.

I am not an Apple fanboy and i definitely didn't get paid to to do this review. Believe me, I felt stupid when I bought the iPad for the first time. I was against my ration. The cost was superbly high for a tablet like this considering there are other android tablets out there that are much cheaper and can perform similarly (Yes, Samsung Fan!) I love how Android operates but I don't know if it's just me or it also happens to everyone that after a few years, the device's performance drops down drastically. It just lags and apps just stop working very often. I've gotta go now. I've just written an essay. Those who will reply me, please don't be harsh :, ) Oh wait, this is social media.

Love your videos, but disagree on the conclusion. I been using my iPad Pro 9 inch for a year as my only computing device. I was using MacBook Air with Canon 550D. Now I shoot, edit and upload and do everything on my iPad Pro. I make nearly 60 videos every month. So you know it's a heavy work load. So far haven't missed my laptop or the camera. This is such a great solution. I can do all the work much faster than I can do on MacBook. You have to find the right apps and workflow, once you do the work gets done quicker than any pc or laptop setup. I am not even on iOS 11 yet, that will only make it even faster.

This machine itself is awesome. The build, processor, speed, everything is top notch. It just lacks the software to make the proper use of it. Apple should really develop a separate OS just for iPads.

Hmmm. Is it a laptop replacement? No. Is it a portable computing device that's capable of a lot? YES. With my workflow as a writer, I can do about 80% of my work comfortably from my iPad. I still have a laptop for the other 20%, but this device has defintely changed the way I work. I think it's a taste specific device. If you like apps and there are apps available for what you need, then it's a true winner. I have no regrets about mine.

Watching on iPad Pro 10.5. I love your videos. While I agree with most of what you said, but this is not a trap for me. This is the best device of this size and weight for my usage. That's why I got it. There are few things that you can do with iPad Pro better than a laptop.

What people do not understand with Apple’s vision is that they’re not trying to replace a laptop by making something that can do everything a laptop can in the same way. They’re creating a whole new way of doing things, which is meant to be different than how things are done on a laptop. This will take time, but as we move on, the iPad will mature into something that is very nearly as capable as most laptops and the great thing is that it will all be done using a new user interface, that is touch! :)

i use it as a digital notebook/journal, screen for my drone, screen for my zwift/biketrainer, media consumption (games, ebooks, youtube, netflix), and ms word and excel for work stuff. it does all of these wonderfully without bogging me down as a laptop would. consider it a tablet that can act sort of like a laptop if needed. i do agree though that it cannot fully replace a dedicated laptop. note: another crucial factor why i love this 10.5 inch ipad pro is because i already own an iphone, so all the apps that ive paid for in the iphone will sync with the ipad since both are running ios.

Dave, love your videos, but let me add some details to this one.
First of all, ultra books and tables are different devices even though it's not that easy to separate between the two especially taking into account so called 2 in 1.
But from my point of few crucial difference is that
CPU is located in the same unit as screen for tablets while for laptops/ultrabooks in the same unit as keyboard.
Also I'm not aware of any popular tablets with screen 13+ so XPS is a device of a bit different class.
However, speaking about tablets up to 12.x inches + Core M CPU (so battery life is durable like for ipad) + Storage 128GB (or more) I would also add following models to comparison
1) Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro S (only up to 4 GB RAM unfortunately)
2) Huawei Matebook
3) HP Elite x2
4) ASUS Transformer Book
5) DELL Latitude 12

Well Dave, I should say this that your videos are super informative as tech review but at the same time, your English is so 'tidy' that is really useful as study purpose as well. Thank you for your accurate sentences and subtitle it works for me not only getting information but also for studying English.

Tried the iPod Pro 10.5", with keyboard and pencil, for two weeks. It's a great device but it wasn't functional... for many of the same reasons you mentioned. Returned it for a MacBook Pro 13" w/ Touch Bar. Happy with my decision.

I love your videos Dave, but I think you missed a point in this review. I do have a windows laptop and use it regularly for gaming and assignments and whatsoever. But in some of my (not the ones, that requiere a full system like a programming course for example) courses I just take my iPad to take notes and mark stuff. I discovered the microsoft app onedrive which is just awesome for editing pdf sheets or powerpoint slides and I'm not even using the original Apple Pencil, because I have an ipad air 2.
In addition to a laptop I'd say this thing is pretty dope for students. Expensive dope though.
