Here's my little guide to achieving the best outcome in Clan Lavellan questline (=Clan Lavellan survives; elves installed as members of Wycome City Council):

1. Use Leliana in "Contact Clan Lavellan" war table operation.
2. Use Cullen in "Protect Clan Lavellan" war table operation.
3. Use Leliana in "Break Venatori Hold on Wycome" war table operation.
4. Use Leliana in "Restore Order in Wycome" war table operation.
5. Use Cullen in "Protect Clan Lavellan and Wycome" war table operation.

Given the fastest way to destroy the clan is to assign Cullen to the first operation, I'm surprised he sounds so detached about it.

there are actually two different routes
you can go with to save clan lavellan.

option 1:

josephine or leliana to contact clan lavellan (whichever you prefer it doesn’t matter just don’t send cullen) >leliana to protect clan lavellan>josephine to investigate duke antoine of wycome>leliana to stop the purge of wycome’s elves>cullen to protect clan lavellan and wycome

option 2:

josephine or leliana to contact clan lavellan (doesn’t matter again) >cullen to protect clan lavellan>leliana to break venatori hold on wycome>leliana to restore order on wycome>cullen to protect clan lavellan and wycome

personally i prefer option one but it’s just preference, the outcome is the exact same for both routes :)

I started playing w/ a Lavellan recently and saving my clan was by #1 priority. I've seen too many ppl lose the clan to let mine go too lmao so I went on dragon age wiki and it took DAYS but I finally did it and it was so worth it. Especially since the loss of the clan never gets a mention in the base game even the stuff said in Trespasser seems so hollow. Also you get a pretty Halla if your clan's safe so there's that

Stupid question: does this change at all if he's being romanced? It sounds rather impersonal and cold if they don't have anything different. Considering time restraints and branching, however, I suspect it likely is the same dialogue. Bright side, no one left at home to call an orphaned Lavellan a shem-shagging blood traitor.

I just started playing this game and I fucked up because I didn't realize picking the wrong advisor can fail a mission. I feel bad and stupid. Looks like I might have to play it the second time for "perfect" playthrough

The first time I played DAI, it was a Lavellan hunter (2 hand yeaaaay), very proud of her clan! I did the Lavellan mission, I didn't read the result, and at the end of the game, I just find out that I kill them. Well... Sh*t.

I loathe how the elves are treated by humans, even the dalish clans. Yes their ears are shaped like knives, but that doesn't mean they aren't people, that doesn't mean you should treat them as lesser beings, like they're things instead of people. And what the human men do to the lady elves...I hope at some point in the next game or one that comes after the next that we have a chance to give the elves true peace and the same rights as everyone else. And if that means siding with Solas, assuming there's a way to save his people without the destruction of Thedas, then so be it. I've had enough of this f***ing discrimination.
