At the moment I’m using a GoPro hero 2014.
I was thing about buying the new 2018.
I don’t really need 4K.
I’m fine filming 1080p.
So do you think it a big upgrade for me.?

Excellent video and great comparison footage between the two cameras. I currently have the Hero 5 Black and I am looking for a secondary camera for multiple angles when filming on Harleys and when offroading in a Jeep. I am having an internal debate between running the current Hero 5 Black as the primary camera and getting the Hero (2018 Edition) as the secondary cam, or adding the Hero 6 Black as the primary camera and moving my current Hero 5 Black to the second camera roll. Your video is helping me with the decision. Scott

How can you use the microphone adapter and a case? In order to get to the usb connection for the mic, you need to open that tiny door on the side and can't insert the hero in the case anymore? Is there a way to remove the door?

Great comparison - thank you very much. Now I have a question regarding the technical specs.

I bought the 2018 instead of the 6 because of several problems reviewers reported using the 6...
So I was looking for a "low tech" camera... 1080 60p is great when it comes to working with the results on a normal computer and the automatic upscaling to 4K works fine on my UHD TVs. Ok for that part. But:
I am really disappointed with the sharpness when filming objects e.g. text in a book at near distance.
Is it a general subject for this type of action cams or is it in particular with the 2018 model?

At 4:35 looks like a darker lense on the 2018 seems that maybe why it’s more brown or orange looking

I made a comment to your previous video about the audio differences between the "2018" and the Hero6. This video again reinforces the huge difference in audio. Does the "2018" have 3 microphones like the Hero 6 and do you have any control over how they might be used? The case appears to have the holes for the mics but that doesn't mean there is actually a mic on the other side of the hole. In most cases the audio is as important as the video and the "2018" audio seems better than the Hero 6. I am assuming you didn't adjust the audio volumes when you rendered the final video. Any thoughts?

You can install something on the hero 2018 that makes it a hero 5. Did this today and i love it now

Hi thank you for posting this video. I want a go pro but wasn’t certain which to buy. I will be using it for fishing films, either static mounting or on a chest harness so stabilisation is not an issue for me so the 2018 looks great. Don’t need 4K etc YouTube is 30 FPS and my laptop can’t handle big files. My only concern is battery life and while I’m aware I can attach a power pack will it still be waterproof which is the most important thing for me. The other thing is the price, here in the UK the 2018 sells on amazon for about£199 and about £300 plus for the Hero 7 so they are not cheap and the upgraded model from the 2018 doesn’t have a removable battery so useless for me!!
