Dragons have appeared in numerous fantasy stories, fairytales and in most mythologies.

But not all Dragons are the same and look the same, and of course their temper and abilities differ from myth to myth.

So I decided to find the main types of dragons found in myths and fairytales from all over the world. I found 14 different types of Dragons:

- The Typical Western Dragon
- Dragonnet
- The Chinese Dragon
- Shen
- The African Dragon
- Wyvern
- Lindworm
- Amphiptere
- Hydra
- Tarasque
- Zmei
- The Bakunawa
- Wyrms
- Chaos Dragons (Leviathan, Jörmungandr, Apophis (Apep) ).

This video is actually helpful for me. I’ve been planning up a comic book series based on dragons, and the way you described these many species of Dragons is perfect.

I love how you included our very own dragon, the Bakunawa.

Given how unknown the African Dragons might be, it would be nice if we got some examples of stories with them or famous specific african dragons.

Nice. Dragons are one of my favorite mythical creatures.

I honestly think it's just a bit weird that through out history and mythologies, there's always been some sort of giant dragon yet in the present we choose not to recognize their existence or if they even existed

I chose Drakes (Western Dragons), Wyverns, Long (Eastern/Chinese Dragons), Coatl (derived from Quetzalcoatl, as Feathered Serpent Dragons) and Selmar (derived from the Selma, to be my Water Dragons) as the “true dragons” in my own fantasy work

Otherwise, I have Draconic Creatures that are related to dragons yet are not true dragons themselves

Always nice to learn more about dragons. I was actually unaware of a few variants mentioned here. So, thanks so much for helping me expand my knowledge. I've always had a fascination with dragons, and like how not all are considered evil, even amongst some of the tropes where many of a type are.

Hmm the only dragons you didn't mention are drakes. They're basically wingless dragons, I like to imagine that drakes would make up for being able to fly with extremely durable scales and I like the idea that some could glide for long distances similar to so lizards.

No mention of the salamander like wyrm, one of my favorite dragons. But my favorite, the Lindworm was, which was nice.

In a fantasy world I'm working on dragons must (mostly) obey actual physical laws, hence they are not as huge and mighty as Mystarian or Tolkein dragons, although they are faster and more maneuverable. They are intelligent, and even among types alignment can vary from friendly to evil.

This is one educational video, and nicely done.

I think another reason East Asian dragons get serpentine bodies AND associated with waters is if you climb up a mountain and look down to a river, you’ll see wavy shapes like that of a slithering snake.

Wow! One of the best-prepared videos from a small producer. Excellent for modern story telling!👍

Zmei can also be called Lamya in other slavic regions, and also zmei can stand for a half-human half-dragon warrior
