You can use indefinite and do maxima and minima after that as well

To maximise area between an and b - a and b have to be the roots of the given quadratic equation 3/4 -x - x^2. Now integrating between the roots of the quadratic = 1/6 (a-b)^3 = 4/3 where a and b are the two roots of the given quadratic equation. (This is a standard formula in area under the curve)
