Come with us as we take you inside some of the most famous historic homes and gardens in the famous Holy City of Charleston, South Carolina! Join us as we walk graveyards, take ghost tours and study preservation and restoration up close.
This historic city and home tour will give you excellent examples of the difference between restoration and preservation, as well as stunning views of Georgian and Federal interiors. Those of you who believe that historic woodwork was never painted, and that historic homes were dark and dreary, be prepared to be surprised by the truth. Find yourself surrounded by ochre yellows, bright aqua blues created with copper alloy, and citron colored walls. Woodwork is highlighted with lead white, cream, grey and polychrome to pull out the details.
You'll learn the difference between applied plaster work and in situ carved plaster, you'll see trompe l'oeil ceiling medallions beautifully restored to their 18th century glory.
Join is as we tour Drayton Hall, Magnolia, and Middleton Place plantations. We hope you'll enjoy strolling the streets of one of the oldest cities in the United States with us!

I was born in Britain and then spent all but the first five years of my life in Canada. The first time I visited Charleston, at about age 50, I got this overwhelming feeling that I was home. Can't say that I actually believe in past lives, but this was the closest I've ever come to thinking I'd been here before and belonged here.

I watch y'all for hours at a time. If you ever visit Madison County, be sure and visit the Chapel of the Cross. It has an amazing history and is still in use today. My dad descends from Noah Hinton Thompson, whose sister build the Plantation, Annandale and the Chapel of the Cross.

Thank you so much. My Mother-in-law couldn't say enough about those houses when she went there with her Church's Choir.

As a native of the South Carolina Lowcountry our beautiful State is home to some of the most haunted places in the country. From Charleston to Savannah (the 2 places slaves where slave disembarked from the Middle Passage.) the whole area left with images and reminders of the past....some good, some not so good.

I’m from South Carolina, born and raised. I’m from the Upstate, in the mountains. I hope you truly enjoyed my home state. I live in St. Louis now. I miss my home so much! Charleston is remarkable. ❤️

I always say that Charleston is the old, historic New York of the South because it's so EXPENSIVE... but so beautiful!!

I'm an Australian but one of my favorite books has the main character visit Charlestown and describes him looking at the old houses. It's been a real treat to actually see the houses the character described seeing. Thank you!

I haven't been to Charleston in quite a few years. I need to get it on my bucket list. My ancestors immigrated through there before the Revolution.

I'm so glad you enjoyed your visit. The Aiken-Rhett house is my all time favorites. Everytime I visit I see something different. I especially love the ballroom, I just stand and try to imagine all the wonderful social events held there. My youngest daughter and I actually attended the military funeral held for the men that were in the Hunley. It was amazing of course everyone and everything was historically correct down to the wool uniforms. Imagine that in Charleston heat! Middleton plantation is very beautiful, I was a docent there for about give years in the stable yard. I really miss those animals. Have a wonderful and blessed Christmas.

Thanks for the reminder of how magnificent Charleston is. It has been about 60 years since I was there.

My mother and I really enjoyed Charleston. We went to church at St. Michael's and they sat us in a historic pew box. So gracious.
The Aiken-Rhett house was completely fascinating.
