The Wow! Signal (A Message From Aliens?)

In August of 1977, a noise was transmitted through the Big Ear telescrope at Ohio State University. It was not a physical noise, but rather a disturbance transmitted via radio, a signal so great that it would soon be called The Wow! Signal, a name derived after astronomer Jerry Ehman wrote the word "Wow!" on the piece of paper which picked up the signal.

Did aliens try to communicate to us through a radio transmission in 1977? Even over 40 years later, scientists still don't know. And for the deaf people, I HAVE CLOSED CAPTIONS!!!

What weirds me out and scares me the most is the supposed age of the signal. Travelling across 17, 000 lightyears at the speed of sound, I can’t be bothered to do the math but this signal is ancient by our standards. It had been travelling across space for years and years before we even looked up to the stars and thought about worlds like our own. Whoever or whatever sent it was far more advanced than us. I think the scariest part, though, is that they’re probably long gone.

What freaks me out a bit is that they were able to send out a signal that we still aren´t advanced enough to replicate 17k years ago and are most likely even more advanced now if they didn´t somehow go extinct. This means that the only bit of intelligent life that we might know of if it truly is life is thousands of times more advanced than we are which was obvious from the start but still is a very scary thought as we don´t know their intentions, again if they even exist.

Its scary to think that there may be someone or something watching us far beyond our view from light years away but whats even more scary is us humans being all alone in a vast universe left to fend for ourselves with no outsiders

It’s kinda cool to imagine that somewhere far away, there actually could be a world sort of like star trek, with interplanetary species and organizations. It’s a shame that I will (probably) not live long enough to see humans become a part of it.

when you take into account how vast the universe is and how fast these signals would move, these signals could be from hundreds of thousands, if not millions of years ago. The fat that we were lucky enough to even hear them at all is astonishing. it also goes to show that if there is, or was, intelligent life outside of earth, it might be long gone by the time we find out.
