Best line of the video - “the fan is off and on all day due to the temperature fluctuations of a senior lady”. Hilarious! Well done with the cozy space. Admirable.

We did this almost 2 years ago. We changed our master bedroom into a studio apartment and my mom lives in there and myself, my bro in law and husband live in the rest of the house. It’s a nice apartment and my mom loves it. It’s nice to have her close. She’s 83.

I have a feeling more families are going to be doing this in the near future. What a great idea!

I turned my master bedroom in to a 400 square-foot studio and rent it out for $900 a mo. completely blocked off from the main house. It even has its own separate entrance. best idea ever!

I just adore you! I had a 900 square-foot granny flat built in my backyard. And I rented out my 1500 square-foot home in front. Single guy that lives there with his dog. It pays my small mortgage plus a little extra and I have a full size living space just for me. You’re so inspiring

What a fantastic idea. You have your family if you need them and your own apartment., And you are helping your family because the cost of renting is ridiculous. It looks great Lulu x

The less you own, the less you have to worry about. You are amazing!

This brings back good memories. Growing up my grandma always lived with us (five kids!). We didn't have much but she managed to make her room so beautiful and cozy. It was a special little get away from the rest of the chaotic house. We would fight over who got to sleep in her room. We'd sit in her big fluffy bed watching Law and order and unsolved mysteries thinking we were cool because she'd let us taste her nighttime wine cooler lol

Simplifying your life and streamlining your possessions helps older ppl stay independent longer. I wish more ppl in their mid 70's or older would realize that.

If I might be so bold to speculate it would be that you feel much more content & cozy in your creative, very well organized & aesthetically pleasing “ little house” than at this stage in life you would feel if you had your entire house to yourself. So many in our age group are overwhelmed & frustrated with ALL their stuff & space of which they have little use for & are no longer motivated to dust & clean & keep sparkling. Kudos to you for having it all .... enjoyable & manageable living space, financial security, family nearby , outlets for travel & fun & the list continues ... you did it !!! 😄.

You just gave me a great idea. I've always worried about how I would support myself if something happened to my husband. I have a garage that we made into a bedroom. I could convert it into either something for myself or a studio apartment rental. So glad to see a retired woman thriving and loving her life. Congratulations!

You're a cutie! Your enthusiasm is contagious! Long ago as a single mom, I bought a small 2 bdrm house, and gave my two kids each a bedroom. We had library nook in the living room with book shelves and 3 lovely windows that I wanted for MY room. A twin bed, nightstand and every book I owned on those shelves was such a joy! Today I am 71 and live in an 8x16 tiny house on my daughter and son-in-law's place in the country. Small spaces are what dreams are made of, and I so enjoy your story!

I too live in a small space. My daughters pool house. One room plus bathroom. I love it. Grandchildren and daughter in the big house. Works out perfect. Thanks for your tour.

My husband and I are planning to buy an RV and travel 6-9 months of the year. Our home has 4 bedrooms, 3 full baths, an upstairs family room and a spacious Florida room- too much space for us now. We have decided to have my oldest daughter, her husband and my GRANDSON move into our home. We will be moving our bedroom and living area upstairs so that they can have the complete downstairs. It’s a win win situation. We will always have a space to come home to and they will have a home ( which is practically unachievable for young families these days). Too, we are making thoughtful renovations which will meet our aging needs in the future. We are having a junk removal company come and help us declutter three decades of accumulated stuff; and, like you, we are only keeping the most precious items that have a story. We want this home to be empty almost, so that they can fill it with their own things.

Perfect. I am 63. Buying a two family with older son. But I would do this if we had to share a house. Older people enjoy solitude and are not lonely, if they have lived a full life. You did a great job ..
