Germany has upset its NATO allies by refusing to send arms to Ukraine. Berlin says the export of lethal weapons to the region could increase tensions with Russia.
The UN Security Council will meet later today for its first discussion of Russia's military buildup along the border of Ukraine. If the meeting goes ahead, it would see Russia's UN ambassador square off in public against those of the US, Britain and other states. US lawmakers are also readying further sanctions on Russia in case it invades its southern neighbor. And German Chancellor Olaf Schulz has signaled that he may be willing to scrap the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.

But this is simple and basically unchanged from the times of Tsarina Catherine. Germans and Russians have common interests. Russia has the resources and Germany has the industry that needs these resources. No wonder that they don't want to upset one of their biggest business partners. Only if s**t hits the fan, the trade will be over.

So Germany doesnt want to send weapons to UKraine because it doesnt make a difference when put against superior Russian military? Yet Germany wlll not object to sending weapons to Ukr when Russia does invade? Does that make sense? Why would German weapons make a difference against Russian military only if Russia invades?

Germany is trying in all ways not to get involved in this situation. Just consider their history and you will get the answer.

They have dependencies on china & Russia. But they forget their products are consumed mostly by nations that are not these.

Reason is Germany is dependent on Russia for its energy needs.

Like I've said in the last few videos on this topic, I'll say again:

You can actually put aside how corrupt Ukraine is and it's messed up history with Germany.

Just think about the recent history with Afghanistan and how all those weapons sent got left behind.

And now you're telling me you want to send weapons to Ukraine again.

I'm sorry, but from what I'm seeing Germany is the only one with sense to not hand over it's weapons to another country.

Although I disagree with Alexander, I still must admit he answered all the questions very well and with great justification. I wish more politicians would be like that. Normally politicians just dodge the questions and speak about something else, but in this case every questions was answered and opposing and justifiable view was offered. One may not agree with the justification, but it is there and at least you can make sense out of it. DW as well asked what I thought were thought and relevant questions, so to see them answered in full and without politicising too much was surprise.
