📡 Welcome to my latest video, where I dive into the world of Gen 3 Starlink! 🚀 In this review, I'll be taking you through the newest iteration of Starlink, which promises a sleeker design and improved performance. However, as you'll soon find out, not everything went smoothly during my initial setup.

✨ First, let's talk aesthetics – the Gen 3 Starlink kit is undeniably slimmer and more streamlined than its predecessors. But does this new look match its performance improvements? Join me as I unbox and showcase the physical changes in this iteration.

🔌 Next, I encountered some setup challenges that I didn't quite anticipate. As I navigated through the installation process, there were a few hiccups that made the experience less seamless than I had hoped. I'll share my honest thoughts and experiences, so you know what to expect when setting up your own Gen 3 Starlink.

🌐 But hold on! The real test is yet to come! To provide you with a comprehensive and accurate review, I'm planning to take this Gen 3 Starlink to South Texas, where connectivity can be a real challenge. Stay tuned for my follow-up video, where I put the system through its paces in a real-world scenario.

🤔 Are you considering upgrading to the Gen 3 Starlink, or are you simply curious about its performance? Don't miss out on my in-depth review series, where I'll provide you with all the information you need to make an informed decision.

Ellie, I saw your video about your weight gain and I don't understand why people are saying anything about how you look. You look like a formula one race track. Curves all over. Men love that. You look great.

Being so close to the buildings is probably blocking some of the satellites. You might have better results out in the open.

this was hilarious thank you. Buying one soon to make more content!!! thx for the vid.

I think it is partly the nature of Starlink. It is regularly adjusting from Sat to Sat. Unlike a Viasat (geosynchronous) setup, it doesn't signal in one direction. It adjusts (without moving the dishy) from one Sat to another as the Sats move across the sky. My speed test will go up and down. (40mb -180mbs for me/mostly around 75-80). It uses a bit of physics to direct the signal without moving the dishy (no motor used). Gen3 makes you position dishy closer to where it needs to be. My gen2 doesn't move anymore. I did have to get above the roof line to be unobstructed.

I live in a trailer park to take care of my grandmother and father. We ran the speed test and got 16.4 download and 0.94 upload. I wonder if Starlink works for us. Thank you very much for making this video! You are sparing alot of people a huge headache with avoiding common set up problems. We appreciate you!

Ellie, Clear line of sight to as much of the open sky as possible is paramount to get the best signal. Buildings will have a significant impact on strength of signal. Once you get it setup at Starbase you should have no issues getting a lock with a good powerful signal. Your SpeedTest results are variable now due to network latency between your system and wherever the Ookla app is randomly selecting to test and any other user traffic going between Starlink and those points. So if you run 20 tests you'll likely get 20 varied and different results. For live streaming from Boca Chica or South Padre you're going to be more concerned with your uplink speeds as that's what you're transmitting out to the Internet. So your next test should be a fixed location near your Boca Chica base of operations to see what type of consistent uplink speeds you have. That's key. Good luck and thanks for all you do to keep us informed! 😉

Speed tests (upload and download) will vary for many reasons... not just your Starlink connection.. For the Upload Test, The Device's (phone or laptop) wifi connection speed to the router can vary depending on device spec's, and distance to router, , then of course the starlink connection from the dish to space and back to the ground may change based on which, and the number of, satellites it using, and then the speed can also be effected by the location and distance to the server that is hosting the Speed Test, and any Network traffic sharing that Server.. and then all of that has to happen in reverse, coming back to your device for a Download test...

I have 2 of the Gen2 dishes. One on my roof and the other I use in my RV.
The one on the roof, with the Ethernet adapter is rock solid.
The one in the RV causes me so much frustration every time I arrive at my camp site.
In theory, I just need to put the dish on the flagpole attached to the ladder, plug in and turn on the Router then wait a couple of minutes
In practice, I have to reboot (soft reboot and hard reboot) numerous times until eventually it goes from offline to online. The number of time I need to reboot varies from never to 5!!

I hope you have better luck when you take this on the road

When I got my gen3 Starlink I laid it on the ground pointing north and a little east and was connected instantly. Getting 235 mbps / 21 mbps upload .

I don’t normally say stuff like this but after that last video? I would be all over that. Definitely. It’s not the number on the scale. It’s the shape. You got it in all the right places.

This was such an awesome video Ellie. Loved the laid back funny review. You mentioned that it is in RV mode ... is this the same as being able to roam anywhere on the planet or is this restricted to the USA only? FYI, since Starlink isn't officially available in South Africa yet, many people are bringing the kits in and using them in roaming mode, paying a lot more than what you guys would pay per month and from the tests I've seen here people are very happy with it. I've also had an opportunity to get onto Starlink a few months ago here in Cape Town at an event and I was super impressed. So cool to see people taking these to our national parks, so besides being able to view the Big-5, you have awesome internet too. hahahaha.

I have Gen 2 in ruralish Ohio with motorized adjustment and usually my best is right around 200 mbps and 50-60 at worst. I think it’s just really where you are and where the satellites are. It’s been trending upward though as more launches get more satellites up there.

With the antenna on the ground, it's probable that buildings are sometimes obstructing the connection. Also, since you live in Austin, your area may be oversubscribed (too many users per satellite footprint).

Your experience with the portable Starlink is pretty much identical to my experience with one of the first beta Starlink’s. I spent 2 hours or more trying to connect after putting it in my roof, and the speeds varied and it kept dropping offline. I did receive it right after Starlink became available at our latitude, and these were version 1 Starlink’s saying that they required a whole 180 degree vision, which is impossible in the mountainous woods of WV. So I returned it to wait until it would be improved and work more consistently with less visible sky. Meanwhile, I have to use cellular as much as internet because our internet cable company sucks and has a monopoly here.
