Truck came in for a misfire and checking for codes only a PO306 for cylinder 6 was present, testing found the coil , spark plug and coil wire was good. The fuel injector passed testing and no vacuum leaks were detected. We performed a compression test and found low cranking and running compression on cylinder 6. We received permission to remove the valve cover to inspect further and found one rocker would only move once or twice then stop moving. Knowing this engine has active cylinder kill for disabling cylinders by removing the oil pressure from the lifters to save fuel we needed to check the valve train and oiling system. The solenoids that control this were all working (these are in the valley area of the engine) So next we had to remove the cylinder head to gain access to the lifters and their retainers. What we found was the plastic type retainers had failed and was allowing the lifter to rotate and damaged the cam and lifter. (sorry no video of this portion of the work)
