Scientists detect gravitational waves from merging neutron stars for the first time

Scientists announced Monday that they have for the first time detected the ripples in space and time known as gravitational waves as well as light that came from a spectacular collision of two neutron stars. This marks the first time that a cosmic event has been viewed in both gravitational waves and light.
