Today I wanna discuss Gluteal muscles anatomy, cause they are responsible for movement and stabilizing of the hips, which is very important for our correct walking patterns.

The group of Gluteal Muscles (the “glutes”) contains 3 muscles:
• gluteus major;
• gluteus medius;
• gluteus minimus.

Watch the video.

First you will see gluteus major.

Gluteus major is the greatest from all gluteal muscles. It starts from ilium and sacrum and is attached to thigh bone. So it’s functions are leg extension and external leg rotation.
This muscle creates the form of our buttock. Thus, strong gluteus major = aesthetic buttock, weak gluteus major = flat buttock.

Gluteus medius starts from iliac crest and is attached to thigh trochinter.

Gluteus minimus is situated under gluteus medius and starts from middle part of ilium and is attached to thigh trochinter.

Both are responsible for abduction in hip joint and hip stabilization.

When gluteal muscles are not strong enough, smaller muscles start working instead of them. As a result – they become overtoned and may press the nerves, situated nearby, what may cause the pain.

Besides when gluteus major muscles can’t work in full during walking, low-back start to work instead, so it becomes overloaded, which may cause further sickness in this area.

Thus, working-out gluteas muscles will lead not only to a better figure, but will also improve your walking patterns, posture and spine health.

Go over to practices and stay healthy!
