Absolutely love my XR650R and I'm not alone. I was hurrying home one afternoon last summer after a long weekend of moto-camping and bombing down fire roads in the Uinta mountains when I blew past a parked cop while doing 55 in a 35. He caught up with me at the next stop light, but instead of pulling me over and issuing a speeding ticket, he pulled alongside me and gave me a smile and a thumbs-up.

So many good times on the XRR. She can do it all. Desert, mountains, highway. What a beast.

I rode an xr600 once and i was so surprised of how much power it had. It hauled ass.

my instructor had the exact same bike, he put on a clark tank and rode it all round Australia, ate three spark plugs one air filter two sets off tyres and never ever broke down

I have a 2000 650L - I was really torn between the L and R, the dealer had both in stock. But the L was cheaper and came street legal. I still have the L, in great condition, only has 5600 miles.
I wish I had sprung for the R, I would still have that too had I bought it. And now that don't make the R anymore. D'oh!

Great bikes! my dad just died on his last year involved in a vehicle collision and I’m not bitching he loved that bike so much he died on it and not his Harley! Bike life boys! When in doubt throttle out!

I’ve owned two. The second one I found sitting for 20 years in showroom condition. After cleaning the carb and dialing it in, I almost looped it first hard wack. Wish I never got rid of it. Would have been a street and fire road only bike. Probably thrashed now though lol.

The stock exhaust has too go!! On xr650L on the other hand I’d leave it on.. I under understand keeping it a mint stock bike though for your purposes.
