My 2013 ROAD GLIDE CUSTOM ran perfectly 3 days ago. Today I go to start her up and she's as dead as a doornail. WTF ! I've got lights, horn, you can hear the fuel pump initiate and prime, But when I hit the start button, it's as if the kill switch is involved. NOT THE PROBLEM. Through diligent research using the YouTube community, AND going to Harley-Davidson I learned the TOP 2 Reasons that could be (and was) the cause.

Thank You in advance for watching my videos. I really appreciate you.

Thank you Thank you, after replacing the battery on my 2022 FXLRST, which was just over a year old, I was ready to call dealer when I came across your channel and guess what, the green ground wire on starter was just laying there not plugged in but close enough that sometimes it would start, plugged that ground wire in and bang starts right up. Also changed battery fob for good measure. Thanks again.

You don't need a fob. There is a sequence in the owners manual for disabling the alarm and starting the motor without a fob but you do need to know the security code. I don't believe the fuel pump will prime without a fob (or knowing the code). On a bagger the hazard lights will flash continually if you turn on the ignition with no fob. My FXSTC has an audible alarm and it will start going off when the battery gets weak... usually after two years. You absolutely want to read up on how to unlock the ignition with the code and try it at home BEFORE the bike leaves you dead on the side of the road somewhere. Also, installing a solenoid slam switch is cheap and easy to do. It eliminates a LOT of possibilities if you hit the start switch and nothing happens. I've been running one for eons. Not so popular these days but definitely worth installing.

Fantastic!!! Solved my issue free! We keep fob batteries on hand. Phew! I thought I needed a new motorcycle battery or worse! Thank you!!! Your help fixed it.

THANK YOU !! a year ago Harley couldn't fix my bike. Just like you said above lights all come on but at times wouldn't start. Then later would start. Harley then soldered some wires after having my bike two weeks. Still wouldn't start at times. Took to Indian shop and they wanted to put in a new wire harness. Now a year later watched the video. Got my back up fob and only some of the lights lit up. That battery was done. Got new batteries and BOOM all perfect. Wish I would've seen this before taking to harley etc and paying over $1, 000 for nothing.

Great advice!! It was the starter wire, on my 2015 Ultra Limited the connector has 2 small red wires, the connector was way loose but not off. pulled it all the way off and then looked it over, pushed it on all the way tight and she fired right up!! Thanks for your help!!

Mate, you're a bloody genius. Had exactly the same issue with my H.D 2007 Sporster 1200 Custom. Tried calling Harley dealers here in Adelaide, South Australia, and local mechanics with no luck. Then changed over the fob battery and hey bingo she's starting up No Worries every time. Thanks again. Gerry Cheers to USA bikers.

Hey man I appreciate your advice on the fab battery. You were 100%. Right! And I had an extra 2032 battery in the drawer! Really thought I was gonna have to get it towed to HD. Thanks again man!

I'll be dam, I inherited my brothers tri glide in 2016 and didn't want to sell it since it was his, swapped the fob battery and started cranking right way. Now to get some fresh gas since it cranks now, thanks a bunch !! I haven't ridden a motorcycle much since 1977, at least this one has training wheels. :-) The owners manual only mentioned make sure the clutch is fully engaged and check the fuse, didn't even say which fuse, guess they want me to pay them a grand to look at it lol. Thanks again

Great video, not being in neutral will also give you the same symptom. Easy to bump the shifter when you're working on it.
