Comparing Curing Methods for Concrete

Concrete curing is something many people do not realize how important it is. This video compares the cost and the impact on the durability of concrete for wet curing, curing compounds, and no curing. The video shows that curing is essential to the long term life of the concrete and the cost is very small compared to the benefits.

About 7 years ago I had a concrete pad poured as the base for a mortared brick walkway. After allot of research I did a burlap & plastic sheet wet cure. The contractor thought I was nuts. Great to see I made the right choice. Having a patio slab poured today and this contractor never heard of wet curing...I sent him the video :)

So this is fascinating.
Living in a city with massive concrete longevity and failure issues in foundations, this is very important. Thanks.

This is literally the best video on concrete I have ever seen. It's nice to see guys with PHD's who actually know how to problem solve, and show their results from their testing. Science is pretty cool if done right. Thus, giving the best method to tackle a problem. If you are going to do something, why not do it right? The first time? And it's not expensive. Crazy. People don't know and people are lazy. Great video! If the Romans can do it 2, 000 years ago why not today?

Although I'm an electrical engineer by training, I really enjoy the insight into the world of concrete you so generously share with us.

Even though the knowledge I gain won't find any use outside of any DIY projects inside and outside of my house I still eagerly await your next video.

Your passion for concrete and the energy you put into the content of this channel is truly in a class of its own.

I would like to know more about surface finishing and some practical advice on how steel/glass/carbon-fibers can be used to replace steel rebars..

I've witnessed construction workers curing the floors of highrise building during construction. It's exactly how you said. If curing is so important, why aren't machines built to facilitate the process of curing. I saw construction workers put a thick cloth and pour some water on it before the ciment was fully dried. The way curing is done today involves too much manual work. Machines would do it more consistently with less labour.

What about painting the concrete to make it more water-resistent?

I've see how the city makes sidewalks and they don't cure it! The same goes for overpass pilliards! Guess who is paying the bills for these mistakes? Your video makes sense!

These videos are really giving an insight that it's not easy to do it right with concrete. Unfortunately many projects are very time constrained and want to go on with the project without delay because every day costs money in salaries and rental resources too.
My first job was at a cement factory, so I have some connection to this world even if I work with something different today.

A+ Video and your Teaching abilities are wonderful, had great info on curing and how it affects concrete lifespan. Just got my concrete small patio done for hottub today in time to do wet curing but need info on that.

I don't really care about concrete, but I love that you do and that you make these videos. It's great and ridiculous. Keep it up.

An excellent presentation. Unfortunately, most people that make the decisions figure that the problem wont show up until after they have moved on. They look at the immediate cost and don't worry about the future. Please keep doing the right thing. Good Luck, Rick

Amazing results, just 3 days, doesn't seem like much to ask for such impressive results. I've watched all your videos, have you done one on the effect curing has on strength?

Thank you - I will send to my know-it-all concrete contractor who did my driveway. After he left, I covered with plastic for 7 days spraying under plastic daily. Surface is good but have lateral various cracks already just a month after the poor with NO WEIGHT. Your channel is great - thanks.
Just curious - is there any special treatment for beachside concrete jobs?

Thanks again Tyler. The educational value of your vids is second to none. So many times have I forwarded links to your channel for my junior engineers to learn simple basic principles of concrete, which they failed to absorb at uni, I should be charging and giving you a cut of the profits !!. Again, another great vid Tyler. 👍👍🇦🇺
