Pros and Cons of the GoPro Hero 7 Black Versus DJI Osmo Action

In my comparison video of the GoPro Hero 7 Black and the DJI Osmo Action, I am doing it a little differently. I am not comparing the video quality or stabilization etc. as I find the differences to be very minuscule and should not be a deciding factor when choosing an action camera. But what is important is its feature set. Both cameras have a lot of similarities but many differences as well when it comes to features and usability. In this video, I go over the pros and cons of each camera to helps you decide which features are most important to you and how you will be using your action camera.

Updates: The Osmo Does live stream. Actually, the Hero7Black will lose connection after 1 hour of streaming, and after over 2 years, GoPro has NOT resolved that issue. The Osmo will go about 4.5 hours without shutting down. MOST everything talked about as far as the Osmo not being able to do... HAS been firmware updated and now does it. The Osmo is now being compared to the Hero9 because they keep upgrading the Osmo, rather than coming out with a new version each year. for 199$ the Osmo is Well worth it over the cost of a gopro. Just thought anyone watching this would like to know these things. The choice is still yours. ;-)

This was TREMENDOUSLY helpful. I need a new 4K camera and was see-sawing back and forth between these but I have decided now.

Osmo Action - The dewarp functionality and the auto calculations for time lapses is what got me. Hopefully they will bring out the hyperlapse and night shooting modes soon.

Personally I think the dji is better just because for the first action camera they already are hitting hard at the 7th GoPro

Recently bought the DJI osmo pocket and am looking to expand my horizons with the DJI Osmo action. This was a very informative video. Perhaps next, you can do a comparison between the two DJI products to see the difference in them?

Great comparison video. I think the Osmo Action did great for a first timer. I can't wait for the 2nd iteration where a few small things get ironed out like the "lag" of the viewing screens compared to what's going on in real life. I would honestly pick one up now but I'm in no need of one just yet. Hopefully DJI will listen to the customers and add a few other features like an external mic output.

around 8:30 you said something about not having any problems about offbrand gopro batteries. i bought 3 of them from a chinese company (wasabi power i believe) and after about 5 months they were all 3 extremely swollen and puffed out. i threw them all out. they also got stuck and jammed in my gopro. the name brand battery it came with lasted about 10 months until it stopped working. the battery will last 10 minutes if i’m lucky. just wanted to make this known.

Two simple things disqualify osmo:
H264 will use two time more data than used by gopro h265.
View angle, especially superview is way better on gph.

Seeing a pattern to DJI that I don't like - they push impressive technology out the door before working out all of its features, and even missing features that wisdom would say makes a better more competitive product. The Osmo Pocket had a glaring issue with external microphone (super expensive 3.5mm adapter, less-than-stellar in-camera audio performance).

I’ve always liked go pro, was gonna buy an 8 or 9, then watched lots of review vids, and seen some bad ones, of them freezing and having to remove battery to reset to continue recording, not good reliability, , as well as shutting down in very cold weather, working along side a DJI, so having watched lots of vids, seeing quite a few with problems, I went and bought a DJI, and have no regrets, after watching this video, I felt you were biased to the go pro, cheers Shane uk 🇬🇧

Again if your aware of DJI and The drones you know the support for firmware is outstanding we went through the same kind of comparisons with the dji pocket. All the problems and they all disappeared with fireware upgrades. Let’s do this comparison is 6 months. The 7 has has the 5, 6, and 7 to make all the changes.
