How do you know if your fret slots are deep enough? You could be using a fret slot depth gauge to check - if you don't have one, don't fret 😉 Gene shows you how you can take a loose fret and make your own gauge!

Does it matter if the fret is shorter than the slot, i.e. it doesn't touch the bottom of the slot?

Tried the filed fret tang option. It doesn't work for long as the fret wire work hardens and breaks. I wind up masking off a utility knife blade at right depth.
