I'm south African. We have had an overall average of 10 000 new cases a day, minimal hospitalizations, and no lockdowns and it seems the wave is on decline already. The transportation problem is a real one across the country. I live in an area with 'limited' public transit already ($3.50 self-scheduled shuttle bus service, limited daytime hours, 24-hr advanced booking), which is supposed to help people with limited mobility get to the grocery store, etc, but they're now only accepting bookings for people going to doctors/hospitals. If your destination isn't medical, your service is suspended indefinitely.
Be a good neighbour--ask those around you with limited transport if they need a ride to the store, or offer to pick up a few things for others when you head out--social interaction and communal reciprocity is how humans REALLY get things done historically... waiting for the govt is rarely an effective option.
