I used to work at a organization which had staff dormitory. We were announced Putin was going to visit our place. (Yes, I'm from Russia.)
We had about 200 staff members. So we were told that we had to go for an unpaid leave for 3 weeks. We had to leave the dormitory. Some of us live thousands of kilometers away.
Only 20 workers were chosen to stay. They were not allowed to exit the territory for the entire period, they had to go through medical testing and to meet president security beforehand. Putin came to visit the place he stayed there for an hour and left.
Only then we had to come back.

This shows how serious the security is.

I don’t know if I misunderstood you but I got the impression you said Russia scouts prior to presidential travel unlike USA Secret service. Based on first hand experience, when president is going to visit at least a few days prior the area was full of people and vehicles that were almost certainly security. And they do a full work up of situation awareness (weather, threat assessment, etc)

A few decades ago my mother worked in a store in a mall, one day she shows up for work and sees about 12 new employees working (the whole roster was normally 8) but here they had 12 new employees in one shift, she goes to some other stores after work and noticed they were also flooded with new employees. There was police walking around all day, extra security. Turns out the president had promised his daughter a trip for ice cream and a visit to some store. He was there like 30 minutes and only visited those two locations.
