Even though I don't have a collection of knives. I love the passion and information that Lugermonger brings.

Dude I think you should do a podcast because your voice is so satisfying. I could totally listen to you talk about knives and anything for that matter for hours

The Microtech "secret" is the massive, hardened blade locks, how they're shaped, and how they're fitted. The blade lock recess is precisely dimensioned to eliminate shifting of the lock under strain. Also, the radiused shape acts to make the locks tend to rotate toward the centerline of the blade as pressure is applied. On inexpensive OTFs - and many not-so-inexpensive versions the locks are little more sophisticated than stamped out squares barely over 1mm thick, with squared profiles on the their edges. These locks, combined with oversized recesses, allow the lock to be pushed close to engagement loss, and tend to fold away from the blade centerline under pressure.
Be nice if reviewers understood the "why" of MT OTF design and used calipers to compare against lesser brand blade locks.

It’s cool when you take these apart how simple they actually are. Idk why it scares people to disassemble them

Well done video. I have both models but have only disassembled the Ultra. Hope I never have to get into the Combat... Signature Series, Apocalyptic Hellhound, CF face.

This guy has a nice setup, the right tools, pleasant voice, clear footage... Keep it up!👍

Honestly I had my ultratech break on me because I was rapid firing a lot, which, obviously, microtech wouldn't have a contingency for. After I did it, I opened it up to see what part failed, and it was the L shaped hook/ bracket that hooks onto the spring and connects to the slider. I carefully reassembled it making sure I didn't lose any parts and then sent it back to microtech to fix, and then I got it back a week later. I feel like this is a big design flaw though because if I pay for a near $300 knife, I want it to be able to take abuse without a second thought. I literally had it for one week and probably fired it a thousand times, which is a lot to do in one week, but products that are truely great should be able to go through some stress testing of a far greater magnitude and still function completely fine.

I purchased a Marfione Custom Combat Troodon to add to my Microtech collection which started with a Halo VI and I love it but the strength required to deploy the retract the blade was incredible before I disassembled it and smoothed things over.

Microtech was amazing though and offered to pay for shipping for me to send it to them to have it looked at but I didn’t need to thankfully. Really cool knife the Combat Troodon.

The number one rule of inserting machine screws in aluminum is to first rotate them backward (counterclockwise) until you feel the screw "pop" in as the screw thread drops off the hole's thread. Then turn the screw clockwise. Those who just start cranking screws clockwise into aluminum will end up cross-threading and stripping out the hole...then blaming it on the manufacturer for not figuring out a way to stop a ham-fist from goobering it up.

Yes. Run em dry, I used to have issues until I stopped lubing my OTFs.. maybe a small dab of grease on the spring to help with "spring sing" is all they need!

Would you ever swap out blades from one Ultratech to another?
That can obviously be done?
Superb review!
