Rain Gear Buyer's Guide!

Tired of getting wet every time it rains? Let us help you choose the best rain gear for your needs with this simple comparison of a variety of brands. Below you'll find a list of our favorites.

Favorite Rain Gear...

The Anhydrous shines in warmer climates or when layering is an option. We effectively fished in this suit from warm afternoon storms down to rain/snow mix without any issues. Its extremely dry and allows plenty of room for layering with your favorite undergarments. See below for a list of apparel we use for layering.

The Gill Suit is extremely warm and well thought out. After several years of intense testing we feel this suit is best suited when the cooler storms roll in. We love this suit when temps dip below 50 degrees and it continues to shine the colder it gets.

The Frog Toggs suit is essentially added insurance. At less than 20 bucks, this is the suit we throw in the back compartment and forget about. They're extremely light weight, take virtually no space to store, and will be there in a pinch if you want to keep the majority of the rain off you as you make a mad dash back to the truck. If you're a bank fisherman this is also a great option because it is light and can be stuffed into a backpack easily.

Does your old rain gear need to be refreshed? Sometimes gear needs to be replaced but a lot of gear can be saved with proper washing and reapplication of waterproofer. We've used these 2 products together to successfully get another season out of fading gear.

Layering/Base Layers...

With rain comes the need to take care of your tackle. There is nothing worse than getting home, getting dry and forgetting all about the wet boat only to return later to find your tackle completely rusted and ruined! Below is a list of the waterproof boxes we use to keep our gear safe in the rain and a unique product that will help keep the moisture away as well.

If you plan to purchase tackle, using the links above to reach Tackle Warehouse supports TacticalBassin and is very much appreciated by both of us! You can use the link to purchase the listed item or click around and purchase an unrelated item once on the site.

Thank you for your continued support!!

So I was super excited to find this video and went immediately to the net to find it.

When I finally found it, I nearly passed out at the price. $350 for jacket and $350 for bib! Looks great but way way out of my weekend warrior league so I guess it's back to the trash bags!

I like going with light gear, then layer up underneath. That way I can use the same rain gear when it’s warm, and rainy.

Appreciate the recommendations... my problem is sizing. Especially with TW's selection. It is difficult to find a Small size in these particular brands, as well as Huk, or UA, etc...
I just buy Ski shells and layer up (I'm in Ontario, Canada, and you need to layer UP!)
So if you're a small (like me 5'8" 150 lbs) that is another way to go.

Years ago I converted to a Drysuit vs Winter gear for boat fishing. Since I don't waterski anymore I have had my Fishing Drysuit..lol.. for the last 12 seasons and the only thing I have to worry about is being a little toasty. Hell, I can jump in the freaking water if I wanted to.
Seriously just for safety reasons alone I don't know why more boat fishermen haven't converted. The kayak guys have caught on and so have Bank fisherman in the Northwest. There's tons of movement in a drysuit :-) and they start at $220 w/thermal undergear. You don't even need a good one if you're not jumping in the water.

Stormr Stryker jacket and bib, literally nothing else compares. They're neoprene so they're warm-you don't need as many layers, waterproofing never wears out and very comfortable.

Once again great information guy's!👍It took me about 6 years to buy a nice rainsuit. Frog Toggs were what I wore up until then.I ended up with bass pro shops pro qualifier rainsuit, and what a difference! Still keep frog toggs as back up just like Matt said.Good luck next time out fishing freaks!👊💥

Just have to say you guys are awesome. Have you noticed that not only is Tackleware house sold out but Aftco is also in their Anhydrous rain gear. You guys should get some kind of kick back for that just awesome.

I have a The north face rain jacket that I've had since 2003, Its still wearable. The Aftco stuff is top tier though.

I know this one is “dated” but the PFD that is recommenced is a type III not a type II. A type II will keep you floating face up if unconscious a type III will not.

I always seem to end up in Cabela’s guidewear, now that I’m older and can afford the gear. It hear a lot about other brands being good, but nobody seems to have tall sizes, like I need. I’ve had fine results with guidewear, but it would be nice to see other high end (and even lower end) companies put out some tall people gear!

Like others I was excited to watch this video... only to find two guys recommending the most expensive suits on the market. I could have guessed the most expensive would be the best... was hoping for a more accessible look at a few different suits in a few different price ranges. Oh well.
