I tried 80x60 @ 2100hz and accidentally opened up a portal to a parallel universe in which dinosaurs still exist. It's convenient to throw rubbish through, though.

I used to play Unreal Tournament (1999) on my 19" NEC monitor in 1024x768 at I believe 119Hz with a Voodoo5 5500 AGP in Glide, and it was the lowest latency, smoothest, most intuitive, most fluid thing I've ever seen or played in my life.

The OG GameBoy was 160x144 so this monitor would be perfect for GB games at 700Hz. 😉

Nice Video guys ❤️🍻 yeah this CRT is a bit special because it’s vertical rate is totally unlocked. The manufacturer rated this CRT at 200Hz which already is higher than most others also.
There are more unlocked CRTs out there but they have to be kinda found by trying them out…

And I also would love to have the CRT tech reintroduced 👍❤️

These Ilyama master pro monitors have an unlocked vertical framerate. I got to over 300hz on mine.

One thing I really admire about CRTs is how they handle color - there's barely any banding, even with 8 bpc color depth. Colors just look incredibly natural, unlike pretty much any modern display I've seen in person, even HDR displays with their increased color depth.

Best monitor I’ve ever seen was my 2003 22-inch NEC CRT. It could do 2048x1536 at 85Hz, .24 mm dot pitch, and had a flat glass screen. It was beautiful, and 22 inches at 4:3 is HUGE. It cost $1200 in 2003, but was worth every cent.

Great news for competitive Pong players.

I still own a 21 Sony Trinitron that I used back in my college days (masters 1990 ish). It is VERY heavy. LOL I bought it back then for the dot pitch. When I was ordering it, they asked if this was part of the mass buy that was heading out to a George Lucas project.

Plasma TV’s are surprisingly great for PC and retro consoles in RGB.

Younger me wanted to go LCD as soon as possible. Older me misses the CRT. Those 6th gen games just dont look right on modern monitors/tv's.

Still got 2 CRTs @home and use them for retrogaming/emulation and Boomershooters. One is able to drive 1600x1200 @ 160hz which is quite nice. Haven't tried to OC them.

CRT is perfect, and it is really annoying that the market stuck with LCD, the worst display tech, for so long. There was even plasma panels before, and they were dropped too soon, I bet we could have 4k resolution panels if they continued to make them. Now only OLED can save us from mediocre quality panels.

13:30 Black Frame Insertion gives much clearer picture on 120+Hz screen for initial 60Hz signal. You can test this feature within Retroarch (if enabled).

As someone who owned several CRTs as a kid and a teenager I can assure you that 60Hz does not look good at all. You absolutely need at least 75Hz to avoid eye strain.

I have a middle-of-the-road CRT monitor, but even 640x480 at 160Hz looks outrageous. Best way to play Quake 2, Project Warlock and other retro games by a mile. In the right instances, even a garage sale CRT can look better than a $2000 OLED.

You could play GBA fine on this resolution (its literally half MegaDrive), OpenLara running at 700FPS would look awesome

theres one of these monitors for £700 e8ay
I like to dream about what modern CRT might be like. I wonder if the cathode ray stuff could be made smaller, I bet they could make the glass thinner too. I bet they could make them shallower by upto a whole 3rd 🥰
I'd buy one.

I had 100hz CRT at 19, I didn't need these video today. Despite having 144hz on hand
