This week on VICE on HBO, a special 100th episode on Trump’s trade wars.

Donald Trump made bringing American jobs back to America a central part of his campaign. Now, President Trump is trying to do just that, pushing stiff tariffs on imports and working to renegotiate trade deals. "Trade wars are good, and easy to win," President Trump famously said, but some feel his actions may set off an international trade war that could decimate the global economy and actually cost more U.S. jobs. Michael Moynihan tracks the progression of this economic battle royale as it happens.

It's like no one exercises critical thinking in these rural places. No debates analyzing every point. No learning about logical fallacies.

They are like children. Things are black and white. He wears a hat that says "Make America Great Again, " therefore he's doing good things. Uggghh!

A trade war does nothing except raise the cost of living for the average American.. there goes more money you don't have! Excellent job Mr. President!

If your metal production is being outsourced it's because your company is not competitive.. if your company is not competitive in the global marketplace it's because of regulations and laws that actually harm the people they allege to benefit.. like overtime laws, minimum wage laws, employer liability laws, government taxes and fees etc etc.. the federal government should not be involved in every single aspect of your life as it is..

All points of view deserve to be heard. You don't have to support the ideas, but you should still listen.

i'm educated, i understand nuance to important issues, and i have supported both left and right politicians. i say this with no sarcasm that Donald Trump is probably one of the best presidents in my lifetime so far. if that just sounds too radical for you, then question whether your bias makes your opinions myopic in scope, not whether i'm fundamentally corrupt.

“Yeah! I’m probably going to lose my job and everything will be more expensive. But somewhere, a liberal might will be in the same situation. So it’s worth it.”

Tolerance is oozing from the comment section. If you are a rural worker with a funny accent, no tolerance for you. And god forbid if you voted for Trump. Left loves to keep speeches about how fellow human beings should be met with love and tolerance. I have learned some time ago that those speeches are nothing but a wind in the air.

These vice videos are so infuriating... Here's an opportunity to have an honest conversation to understand and just lay out the facts in front of them, it doesn't matter if they get convinced or not... But this vice interviewer always seems to be on the verge of bursting with indignation with a patronising attitude... It's a lost opportunity...

I do acknowledge problems with poverty within many cities but people forget about poverty in rural areas. I have been to many places that are now ghost towns/poverty stricken because industry left. I don't care for Trump but I cannot blame anyone who voted for him because he promised to bring back their lively hood. To many outsiders it may seem like a selfish move to try and help yourself but if you were in the same situation you would pick the choice that will put food on the table for your family.

Manufacturing has been BOOMING in the US. Expanding for ten years. The tariffs will reduce that significantly, leading to job loss in the industry. But okay, a couple of low-skilled aluminium workers get to have plants re-started. It will be a net loss for the economy.

More jobs gained than lost 10:1. Look at the facts not your feelings. Unemployment rate? GNP? Trade deficit? Consumer confidence? New manufacturing plants? Overseas cash returned by multinationals? We are in a period of economic boom. Be grateful for it. Imho.

Ironically, the biggest cost within aluminum production is ENERGY, not labor.
If the main goal was to retain aluminum production in the US they could have done so via other means. This is when REASONABLE governmental subsidies are enacted. For example, production facilities of aluminum get cheaper electricity via several ways of achieving such. Instead, in the US, oil companies get stuff they dont really need... and they do shit like the trade wars that have even worse effect on US markets.

Whats next, people thinking a trade deficit equals a wealth creation deficit as well? LoL, no, nations with trade deficits actually have the biggest WEALTH creation of that trade. Otherwise they wouldnt have a trade deficit in the first place because there wouldnt be incentive to import stuff without marked demand! If taxation in US$ is the same and you need to import cheaper and sell it at a higher sum to stay profitable. It goes without saying that the importer nation will have the highest wealth creation of that money, more tax revenue, specially with the company profits and VAT on sold products dynamic and so on...

In short, the US is doing better than China despite the former having a trade deficit to the latter.
Ergo, why you should vote #SocialDemocratic. We dont have BS "memes" for economic issues like "trickle down" or "tax cuts for rich fixes everything" ala the right, but we have REAL solutions that work and why most rich countries with good average Citizen buying power are Social Democracies!
