KTM 690 enduro R low power? Rider mode clarification

Показать описание
The KTM 690 Enduro R, Gas Gas ES700, and Husqvarna 701 Enduro have given the rider several rider mode choices at their fingertips; since 2019. Lately, we've heard new owners complain of low power offroad. As owner of a 2023 KTM 690 Enduro R, I know that the Street Mode (Mode 1) is called the Street Mode for a reason. These riders were using Mode 1 with Traction Control (MTC) on and that is not good offroad at all. Now they know. You do too, in case you didn't a few minutes ago! Ride safe but do crazy things.

I own a '23 701 Enduro, tuned with Rottweiler's map on a PC6 with an O2 delete and Yosh can. Now it makes power 😄 These bikes are very lean from the factory, richening up the fueling really adds to the off idle through midrange power and their part throttle response. They are correctly fueled for wide open throttle, but I think I've pinned my 701 perhaps 2 times.

I think what people are running into while off road is the bike defaults to Map 1, TC and ABS on front and rear when it is started, and that is the worst of all worlds setting for dirt. Traction control is way more intrusive in Map 1, which is a disaster in the dirt. If TC is turned off, I find the "street map" #1 actually front loads more response in the initial input of the throttle and it is too jumpy when riding in the dirt.

The green #2 "off road map" (which disables rear ABS) is linear, what you ask for is what you get, which makes Map 2 far more controllable to the initial turn of the throttle in the dirt. What you want in the dirt is Map 2 with the TC off and ABS completely turned off. Hold down the ABS button after starting the bike until it lights up solid and then you are good to go.

Both maps output the same power, but street map 1 is a bit of a gimmick in my opinion, as it makes the bike "feel" faster with the more aggressive initial response. I leave it in map 2 all the time, as it is 100% linear, what you ask for is what you get, which is much better for doing wheelies 😆

I also run an off road dongle that causes the bike to remember the last TC and map settings. I still have to manually turn off front ABS when off road every time the bike is started, still a mild inconvenience (was hoping it would leave ABS completely off) but it is an improvement over having to reset the TC, ABS and map every time, so the "off road dongle" is still worth it.

Another must do mod is to swap out the 215F factory fan switch for a 175F (80/85C) switch. AOMC has them. The fan will run all the time when off road but that doesn't hurt anything and your engine will thank you.

Another thing, KTM products I've had tend to "bed in" their valves which causes the clearance to go tight initially. The good news is they hold their clearance well after the bed in. Don't skip the 600 mile service - I did the service myself, all 4 of my 701's valves were at or just a bit past the tight end of the spec so it got 4 new shims. I don't expect to have to mess with the valves much from here.

Search YouTube for "Husqvarna 701 Enduro Wheelie Practice" (it is the one in the business park) if ya wanna hear a Yosh can equipped good running 701. 61 years old and still haven't grown up yet 😆

Hi. I own 2022 enduro r EU version. Map 1 is full TC and ABS front and rear. On map 2 is weaker TC (it let you do wheelies) but it is there and ABS is active ONLY on front wheel. You can disable ABS completly in map 2 (rear and front) with the button on dashboard and you can disable TC completly in map 2 as well.

To be able to turn off TC (maybe ABS as well, Im not sure) you must ride for a couple of meters by speed higher than 4km/h until TC light turn itself off, then let off throtle (or stop completly, it is safer) then hold TC switch for 5 seconds (not less, not more). If TC light will go on, you did it right.

Sorry for my bad english

Not easy to work out what mode 1 and 2 does as it changed in 2021 so depending on the age of your bike, some of the guidance out there is wrong. Since then mode 2 is Sport on the Supermoto but Off-road on the Enduro. On the Enduro, it helpfully puts the TC and ABS into off-road allowing some slip on the throttle, wheelies and disabling rear ABS. You can disable them completely with the individual buttons if you wish.

I leave mine in sport mode with ABS and traction control on all the time.

Just to be clear, you need to roll the throttle back to turn traction control off

Map 1 is like valet mode.... I only use it if I'm on ice or letting someone borrow it.... Map 2 slaps

Lots of good information and what a beautiful store you have. Unfortunately, GASGAS will not be offering this model in 2024. So just KTM and Husqvarna. Could my man recommend a muffler for this bike?

This is partially correct, please read the manual.

The manual says that the SPORT mode offers Offroad Traction Control and Offroad ABS. Therefore these are looser configured in SPORT vs STREET, therefore i would not recommend diving on streets with SPORT mode, but with STREET mode. Otherwise you risc making an accident with less traction control and less abs.

So how do the different modes change the abs settings? Does Map 2 change the ABS to "off road" ABS? Meaning, ABS on the front wheen, but switched off on back? Or do you need to do something else entirely to initiate off-road ABS?

Sorry, but your information is wrong and dangerous!
In Map 2, the rear wheel ABS is turned of and the corner traction control is reduced. This can lead to an accident if it's not known or you are not an experienced rider!

My 690's MTC button/switch won't deactivate. I have held the button down per the manual instructions and as you have demonstrated in the video. Any suggestions?
