I fall into the I don't care, lowest spot price possible, CGT exempt category. I never look at anything I've bought after initially checking the order.

I wouldn't mind some of the newer Sovereigns but not a fan of the Rose Gold. Personally, I also really like the history of the older coins. Oldest one I have is from 1850, the Samurai were still around. But if I have a choice between old gold and new gold and the price is the same. I'll take old gold every day.

Wise words on watering down the “special year” sovereigns🙆‍♂️.
Still can’t beat the color of the older sovs.😍.
Thanks for sharing, and
Merry Christmas 🎅.

Technically the king is the front of the coin. Nice coins, I love your videos! 👍

On the Royal Mint website it says that 2025 is the final year they'll be using copper for sovereigns. So from 2026 onward they'll no longer be rosy. If you want brilliant uncirculated sovereigns and you like the rose-gold colour, buy some this year. If not, wait a year.

*Rose gold is only categorised as rose gold if it is 18ct or less. Sovereigns are 22ct, so they are categorised as just gold, or even yellow gold, despite clearly being rose coloured.*

Modern sovereigns and krugers are the same alloy and they are both very red compared to eagles.

Old coin is better, full of history, culture. I always like the feeling that I'm holding a gold coin that has been changing countless hands in the past.

I have just started my sovereign journey of collecting last month so excuse my ignorance. Being a novice I tentatively bought some quarter sovereigns (2017) and some Hatton war 1/4 sovereigns. Any views/advice from Folk would be fully welcomed. Thanks in advance.

The other point about the older sovs is being able to assign the 'collector' label to yourself for official means. I was looking to grab myself one for xmas but Chards have some real good deals on the 1/4 Tudor Beasts atm (not much more than a sov) so grabbed a Bull for the collection instead.

Gold Sovereigns were minted in a rose gold alloy starting around the year 2000 and continued until the year 2025. The 2025 edition marks the final year of the rose gold Sovereign series. The Royal Mint plans to revert to the traditional yellow gold colour for Sovereigns in 2026.
Elaboration:
The Change in Alloy:
In the past, Sovereign coins were made with a higher proportion of silver, resulting in a more golden appearance. Sovereigns minted from 2000 onwards, however, incorporated more copper into the alloy, giving them a pinkish or copper-toned, rose gold appearance.
The Final Rose Gold Sovereign:
The 2025 Sovereign is the last of the rose gold series, marking the end of an era for this particular design.
Historical Significance:
The 2025 Sovereign is particularly significant as the final rose gold edition and will likely become a sought-after collectible, as it is the last coin in the rose-gold series.
Return to Tradition:
The Royal Mint is discontinuing the rose gold alloy and will return to the traditional yellow gold colour for Sovereigns in 2026.

Is there any reason to keep them in the plastic case?

Looking forward to the traditional yellow gold sovereign returning in 2026 after 25 years of rose gold sovereigns.

I would rather buy a 1920's dated Gold ingot marker 97% pure than a modern one. I can be sure the 1920's example is genuine.

Sovereigns are a tad under quarter oz, and the same diameter. For £560 they're a good buy.

Do you get your sovereigns from royal mint? I watched your vid on saving a sovereign every month, I want to start but I don't know where to get them. I have been looking at getting 'The Sovereign Best Value Gold Bullion Coin' from Royal Mint website. What do you think?
