Been following you for a while all the way from Sweden. I need to tell you that you have really changed my life for the better, and here’s why.

I am 37 years old and started snowbording with my grandpa when I was about 12-ish, so back in the early 90’s or something like that. It became an obsession and then, for me and my friends, it was all about freestyle, parks and big jumps. As I progressed, so did my ignorance towards how hard you actually can fall.

After one broken elbow, tailbone smashed 2 times, 2 fingers snapped, it was time for the big one..

I was 30-ish and under the impression that I was still 17 and immortal. So, I wanted to try to double frontflip, again, like back in the days.

Me as a 6”2 guy, coming in at 230lbs, is not suited for that anymore. I ended up shattering my neck in two places, ripped my left triceps in half and dislocated my shoulder.

I thought my life was over..

Much to my doctors surprise, I was up walking the day after surgery. 2 titanium plates in the neck and bone fragments in my nerv system, made me put snowbording to rest, for ever.

Then, I came across your channel via another channel and I kinda started watching your videos about carving, which to me, never before was and option, felt ”lame”.. but man oh man how I became hooked. I have an old board from the 90’s that is flat, flimsy and without pop, the binding are from 92 and I borrowed some boots in the local mountain shop and I set sail, not knowing how it would end.

The first run, felt.. amazing and also scary as hell, since I could injure myself worse if I fall. But I felt happiness again, for the first time in years. Feet hurt, ankles hurt, butt, knees and calves hurt, but I was alive again.

Thanks to your videos, I am trying to save up money for new gear, to learn to carve, bacuse that my friend, is where I wanna be in the future. With 4 kids saving is going to take for ever to get a Donek Knapton board, but I am keeping the dream alive.

So from the bottom of my heart, thank you Ryan, for showing me that snowboard has many layers and dimension, you just have to know where to look ❤️

Good vid. We'll be up on Friday. T bar to Imperial was nice earlier this week, conditions on 7 were so great for riding switch almost the entire time.

Hey Ryan - It would be really useful to get your perspective on bindings for carving on an extra wide Donek!

should do a video of recognising the different qualities of snow for carving. On my local mountain the snow early season is like sand, you can't lock your edges in at all...
