An 80s movie where the plot is rooted in a remarkably accurate understanding of relativity - in that, a young boy is abducted by aliens and returns to Earth, only to find that while he hasn't aged, everyone else has... essentially time travel via relativity.

I grew up watching this movie, but forgot all about it as I aged into my teen years. While I was attending film school abroad, circa 2000-2001, I remembered the movie, went to the video store to ask for it, and the guy behind the counter was like,
"Is that the movie where the kid is flying around in a clamshell?"
"And I'm like, yeah. Yeah, he does fly around in a clamshell, doesn't he?"

So if you vaguely remember a movie about a kid flying around in a clamshell, but don't recall the title. I hope the algorithm serves you this reminder.

I cannot stand that they did NOTHING with phaelon or the aliens that built the ship or are their any more or what’s max’s full mission like why’d he have to collect specimens from each race?
